Here is a song I wrote back in 1973. I used a BIAB Dixieland style for the entire arrangement. I added my vocal and Dan Lippert's harmonica. Off last year's CD, Something Borrowed, Something Blue. I love the tuba bass. https://fredgrittner.bandcamp.com/track/sweet-marianne-2

Sweet, pleasant little tune!! Arrangement works perfect and the vocal is nice and natural. Reminds me of a McCartney melody with the bouncing rhythm (Tuba bass is indeed nice). Great job! Take care. Greg

Nice one Fred. Love me some tuba. What ever happened to this sort of music that just makes you smile and tap your foot?
Regards,
Bob

Hi Fred,
really nice tune and arrangement. Greg is right with the McCartney vibe. I like the vocals and like everybody else the tuba. Enjoyable listen.

Very nice tune. Every sound is so blended into each-other. Good choice on instruments, also. Perfect mix!

Hi Fred, A very enjoyable listen. This made me think of The Beatles "When I'm 64". Everything about "Marianne" is terrific. There's a whole heap of musicianship on display in the presentation. I particularly liked the modulations. These were very skilfully planned and executed. Regards, Noel

Hello Fred,
we really like this one! It is put together very well. Nice chord progression too. Not a style you hear a lot on this forum.

I particularly liked the modulations. These were very skilfully planned and executed. Regards, Noel Yep -- the bridge was so much a McCartney vibe. Ole Paul would likely be a bit jealous. This was a nice write, mix, performance and production. I'm glad I got to hear this one. Charlie

Thanks for the comments. The McCartney connection didn't dawn on me until I released this version. In my head I was combining elements of Peggy Day and Tonight I'll be Staying Here with You from Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline album...
I doubt I will have an opportunity in the future to revisit Dixieland styles but it certainly was fun using the RTs on this song. Thanks again.

Very good lyrics, good mix of instruments including the big old tuba, the whole thing gives a 1920's and 1930's kind of style and actually reminds me of the song "Whispering grass". If that sort of era is where you were aiming for you certainly got there, and quite a lot better than the Beatles did with "When I'm 64" I enjoyed listening to that and will return to listen again.

Lol I love it. This tune really takes advantage of the Dixie land style. Well done. Rob.
