I wrote this song in 1975, new to New York and lonely. I never recorded it till this week, it was too epic and not at all commercial. The vocals are shared with Bob Brigham. BB tracks are drums, bass, 12 string guitar and two muted electric guitars, sorry I can't access the BB notes just now.

There's a lot to like with this song. I'm not normally a big fan of long intro's because they don't work most of the time. The intro worked perfectly for this song in my opinion. It was really nice ... and interesting. A nice arrangement on the intro. I think your vocals with the other singer were a good match for the song as well.

This is well written, arranged, performed and produced at every level. I enjoyed listening to this one a lot.

"And the hoods in the park keep their knives sharp waiting for me"

Cool line....and true or not one often feels that way.

I sense a lot of emotion just below the surface in this song.

There is a lot of tension that draws one in; into this piece of music.

Cool tune!

Cheers,

Billy

At the time this was written, New York was a pretty dangerous place. I was mugged in Washington Square just weeks before I wrote the song, so the lyrics are quite real. It's very different now, a very nice and safe place to live.
Here's the BB memo for the song:

I like the groove and that dirty guitar playing held chords in my left ear. You playing that?

Epic is right, but considering the backstory it's an epic subject.

much enjoyed!

Cool song. Has a Pete Townshend feel to it. Written in 1975, that was a pretty common sound for its day. Holds up well. I enjoyed it.

Steve, you found the inspiration. At the time I wrote this I was fascinated by Quadrophenia

Definately shades of the Who and an epic introduction. Very nicely done. I could see the arm twirling at times.

This really evokes the feel of Quadrophenia - but also stands on it's own really well.

This is a keeper!

I loved that Who intro modulating to a Tangerine Dream synth part - loved it. Keeping that synth part through out the song was genius!

Great vocals, chord structure, lyrics and backing tracks all mixed perfectly!

Yep, has the WHO written all over it!! Your friend does a nice Daltry to your Townshend. Pete is my favorite musician/songwriter of all time and I believe Quadrophenia is the best Rock album of all time. This is a great tribute!! Enjoyed it a lot. Take care. Greg

I've transitioned completely to Pro Tools, and did an automated mix of this song. Looking for a Friend is part of a larger themed structure, and this year I'll be working on other songs that are part of the story.

Hi ...

This is the first time we've listened to you. We have to echo The Who comments.

What we most enjoyed about this was the various textures you used and how you layered them as each part needed the changes. There's a lot of work put into this production and the rewards are obvious.

Really cool song. This music will stand the test of several generations beyond ours. Hats off for a great job to all concerned!

Hi Will.

Bit late to this one - don't know quite how I missed it earlier, but sure glad I found it at last.

Like people have said already, the Who influence is there in bucketfuls.

Lots going on in this track and I can imagine there's been a lot of work involved, but I must say it was all worth it. A massive sound with a good mix and a powerful vocal.

Really liked this one.

Well, the word "epic" has already been used but
it's so apt I'm gonna bring it up again.

EPIC arrangment and production.

ROG really nailed it: "A massive sound with a good mix
and a powerful vocal."

Enjoyed it.

Will,

What a great step back in time. I enjoyed the listen. 'Epic' describes the composition, the arrangement and the production very well. It's easy to hear that a great deal of time has gone into this creation. It's definitely one to be proud of.

Thanks for the journey.
Noel
