The Impossible Blue

shadows shadows that played
played on your face where we lay
we lay rising up in the trees
our doubts as many as leaves
desire the clouds we passed through
to the impossible blue

our souls souls burning upward that day
that day we said would not wear away
away as the bells rang out
I kissed the soft flower of your mouth
on a path with no parting from you
in the impossible blue

they`ll say they saw us fall
none of them will ever stand as tall
as when I fell to drown with you
in the impossible blue

in dreams in dreams we`d never wake
wake to the tears and the ache
the ache of birds hungry for the sky
this world meant nothing in your eye
tomorrow a song I`d sing with you
in the impossible blue

Interesting and enjoyable song.

I think the musical backing could come a little more to the front. It's quite hidden behind the lyrics.

The harmonies work well.

It sounds like a fun song to do. I enjoyed the vocals and harmonies. I thought the melody was nice and you did a good arrangement. I did not think your voice needed the delay on your opening vocals. Just personal opinion though.

I enjoyed my listen.

Robert,

Cool song - really nice melody.

I commend your use of loop beats! There were a few spots where the piano seem to conflict with them - made me wonder if using a synth track in place of the piano might blend better. I also agree with comments by others that the vocal - which is quite nice! harmonies, too! - should come down a bit to sit in the mix...

Cool stuff. Keep it up!

Thanks, Joe
The style was so nicely put together I had little to do.
Written one day & recorded the next... amazing programme!

Yes, it was fun...thinking about things I like in pop ballads and trying to get some in. I found the vocal challenging & that probably accounts for putting more processing in than usual.
Thank you for listening and commenting!

Floyd,
Those are very helpful and supportive comments-much appreciated.
I`ve dropped vocal levels now and will listen again to see if I can hear that piano/loop conflict.

Thanks, Kenny.
I enjoyed finding that repeating words from one line to the next helped the flow of the song... it also gave me an easy form to work with.

Robert,

Again we detect a Roy Orbison influence.
Did you use the build in harmonizer from Biab? We very much like the song and the rythm in it.
We love the lead vocal, it's very expressive.
NB: We immediately recognized Brent Mason's Dreamy RT (is there any other).

Rob & Anne-Marie,
Thanks for this - it wasn`t an easy fit for me on the vocals- took many takes to get a feel for the style.
I thought about a Roy Orbison-like octave jump for the last verse but probably wisely didn`t keep my recorded attempt!
Yes, the harmonies are BiaB harmonizer split into 3 tracks and panned l & r.

Hello, Robert

Very cool pop ballad.
The melody is very good as always.
Especially I like the chord resolving B major instead of B minor or D major.
As floyd said, I also think there were a few spots conflicting with other instruments against the lower percussion.
If the pitch of the percussion is changeable, it will be worthy to try.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Robert, I really like the overall feel of this one. Nice little changes here and there and also the harmonies. may have been out your comfort zone but that's how we arrive at new musical destinations. Thanks, Torrey.

Hi, Robert !

I like this tune really much !
It is a very beautiful one, maybe
one of the best I´ve heard from you !
The emotion shines thru just the way
it should following the lyrics !

Cheers
