There was a Real Band "trick" to producing this song explained in the track notes. There is no other program on the market that I know of that will enable you to use this trick and bring Ray Charles into your house.

Come Shining
By David Snyder

https://soundcloud.com/davidsnyderchannel/come-shining

V1

I remember days
When I felt stronger
I think those were the days when I had you
I remember a time
When the nights were longer
And I felt there was nothing in this world we couldn’t do
But now the days
Are growing shorter
And I wonder
If there’s anything left to prove
I get my old guitar from the corner, but he’s feeling down
Because baby, he remembers you too

CH:

But one day, the sun will come shining
It will come shining, come shining through these blues
And one day you will remember, after all
I played every note, every note for you

Inst.

V2

I remember days
When I felt better
I think those were the days
When I had you
And some people say, just forget her
But I know that’s something I could never ever do

CH:

Cause one day, the sun will come shining
It will come shining, come shining through these blues
And one day you will remember, after all
I played every note, every note for you
And one day you will remember, after all
I played every note, every note for you

Trick: In this song I used the John Jarvis 2045 Accompaniment Piano, but in Real Band when I rendered it I selected "also generate real chart" on the generate menu which is an amazing function, I have found. This gave me a midi file for the piano part. I then took that part in midi and ran it through a Garritan Grand piano sampler in Aria so I could control the tones and notes, and overall sound and so forth.

I was trying hard for the old school Ray Charles/Carole King sort of vibe.

David,

Using the charts for the MIDI Supertracks is excellent. Because the Piano Realtracks are recorded on a Yamaha with MIDI capabilities, the charts: (a) are accurately notated replications of the RT; (b) have all the midi information one needs to recreate the artist's performance. This makes them very powerful indeed! (I also like being able to modify notes to suit, as well.)

I like this composition. I congratulate you on how you wrung every last drop of emotion from that last chorus. It was 'all stops out' here on my speakers! You really pulled me into the song.

By the way... Carole King and Ray Charles... what great songwriter/performers to channel!

All the best,
Noel

"I wonder...
If there’s anything left to prove"

What a nice line. But doesn't come close to how good this one is:

"I get my old guitar from the corner, but he’s feeling down
Because baby, he remembers you too"

Sweet.

Now a question for Noel (and sort of for you...)
Isn't what David is describing an effort to chart what the RealTrack is doing?... and not the same as loading the MIDI SuperTrack of the same description? Isn't the MIDI SuperTrack (1887) a better way to go to do this - with all the nuances of the performance?... And - to David - did you consider loading the MIDI Supertrack? Just wondering...

Cool song. It actually has a "Randy Newman feel", I think... every bit as good as going for a Ray or Carole feel (both, also excellent choices...)

Thanks Floyd!!

I never thought of using the midi super track. I will have to try that next time. Is there a list of the super tracks that are equivalents to all the real track choices, or are only some available?

When I ran the real chart midi through my piano I loved the way it sounded so I didn't really think to do anything else, but I will check that out next time.

Let me know if my question makes sense and if you know where to find all these "matching sets" of real tracks and super midi tracks easily.

I wouldn't have the slightest clue as to how to do what you just said without knowing what to look for.

(and this is kinda exciting...because knowing you, it will open up yet another avenue for amazing inspiration and innovation...)

You said that you used 2045 - which is... 2045:Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment CountryPopJohn Ev 085

In BIAB if you select "Select MIDI Supertrack for this track..." just walk down the list to see if the same description is in that list...

You can then apply whatever piano vst you have available to play it - like your Garritan .... I almost ALWAYS go this route for a piano track (I love the sound of the TruePianos vst in my mixes...)

Thanks Floyd,

I tried that out and it is cool. Definitely nice to have another tool in your toolbox! Thanks.

I guess for my next tune I will do a polyphonic orchestral work using EVERY super midi track available in the library and send it to you to mix.

Thanks man!! I will have that over soon. It's in Db minor.

"Hi there how are you.
It's been a long time".

Recognize these lines from Joe Walsh and the Eagles?
We do, because your voice sounds almost exactly like Joe here, and we do think that is an accomplishment.

David,
Got lost in the discussion the first time ( I learnt something!) and listening again really enjoyed this song.
Both the simple charm of the lyrics and your raw vocal sound like the best of Mr Newman - that`s a great achievement and had me wondering about the kind of movie this song would go with.

Great example of raw vocal emotion. The musical bed was impressive and the vocals were emotional and authentic. This would have been a great song for Ray but there are many others that come to mind that are still living that would give a shot at #1 a good run for the money.

Hello David,

You never cease to amaze us with your creative skills. I'm (Alan) totally lost in the discussion as I have no idea how to import VSTs, etc. Everything we do is straight from BIAB. I don't even use a DAW. Everything we post has music straight from the chord input page. We do it all right there.

I'm not very technical with all this stuff but would love to be! I've read the BIAB manual repeatedly and watched You Tube video after You Tube video after ......... I don't know a single thing more than I did before I started watching. In the BIAB manual and in the videos, certain assumptions about the user's basic knowledge is made. Those assumptions don't apply to me - I am a total and complete idiot on the technical aspects! What you and Floyd discussed above went by me faster than a politician running from the truth. I'm a pretty good picker and an okay lyricist. I'm not a technician by any definition known to man!

Anyway ... this is a terrific song and the emotion and expressive intonation in your voice is top shelf. I;ve heard several names thrown about who might have done a super job on this. One that came to mind for us was the late Joe Cocker'. Walsh was a good one, too.

Applause for another great creation and performance. We're in awe!

David, I listened before I read the comments. My first thought was Randy Newman, then I see of course floyd already said it. Very nice accessible melody and a well written song. The midi super tracks are truly super. Great job again, Tom

A MST from BiaB with a Logic Pro X Grand Steinway sound has become my go to piano track. Amazing. floyd posted a free deal a while back for piano sounds from Addicted Keys and I grabbed the Upright one. It's tremendous on MST's.

We'll triple down on the Randy Newman sound -- he has long been a Janice favorite.

And as floyd mentioned the below is one heckuva "wish I'd written that" line.

"get my old guitar from the corner, but he’s feeling down
Because baby, he remembers you too"

Great tune David all the way around.

Hello, David

The chord progressions filled with Ray Charles' feel are very beautiful.
Your vocal is very emotional.
The way you make MIDI track is also very creative.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.
