Love Just Goes Wrong

This is a song about lost love and being so beat down from trying to make things work that you just don't care anymore. I wrote this after a fight with my now wife a few years back. We had been going through a rough spot. I had already been in so many bad relationships that I thought this one would end up like the others, and I felt like I just couldn't care anymore if it worked out.

Key of: Bb
Tempo: 93 bpm

Real Drums:
Nashville Even 8

Real Tracks:
518 Bass, El, Pop Half Notes
365 Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking
363 Pedalsteel Background
409 Fiddle Background George

Other Intruments:
VST - Halion Sonic SE - Ahh to Ohh Choir Note Exp

Vocals and Mixing done in Cubase Elements 9

Lyrics:

It's 3am. I'm all alone.
It's no surprise that you've not come home.
I'm sitting here in this king sized empty bed,
where sometimes you lay your head.
I use to wish that you'd be true,
But now I realize that just ain't you.
I use to wonder just what went wrong,
But now it's been so long.

Don't you know I just don't care,
about the who, the why, the when or the where?
You've been cheating while I've been keeping strong.
Sometimes love just goes wrong.

Like just last night we had a big fight,
and I could tell by the look in your eyes
that you were leaving and you weren't coming back.
Oh, but I've known that.
Those same excuses and reasons why,
are as cold and useless as an old pickup line.
Don't even know why you bothered slamming the door,
cause I don't care no more.

Don't you know I just don't care,
about the who, the why, the when or the where?
You've been cheating while I've been keeping strong.
Sometimes love just goes wrong.

What a pretty song, Samuel! I love those fiddles smile Despite the somber-ness of it, I thoroughly enjoyed this tune. Really easy to sway to, and really easy to relate to as well.

Great job on this - thanks so much for sharing smile

Samuel,
Sweetly melancholy. The melody swept me along and had me enjoying the sadness of it all!
A very nicely balanced band - I liked the oohs of your choir too.
Well done!

Sammy,

A good "I'm-fed-up-with-love" song. I always like a "mid-tempo sad" song - it gets the message across without dragging - you did a good job of that here...

Good instrumentation and a good mix. I think the vocal could use a hair more reverb...

Enjoyed.

Hi Samuel.
Very well put together.
Loved the sensitive words.
Really liked how the song builds near the end.
Some harmonies would defiantly boost this.
Great production and performance.

I agree with my friend Floyd. Very nice!! I also think you could use a bit more verb. The vocal is very well sung. Nice job! Take care. Greg

Very well done. Sad and soulful. Love the country vibe. But tell me, has your wife heard this? Mine never listened to my work, but when she finally did...OVER, boy! Oh well.

BTW...I hear some Cat Stevens in your vocal. Really.

Enjoyed it,
Bob

She has heard this but does not know the whole back story. She thinks it's just one of my many breakup songs. Those are some of my favorites to write.

Interesting what floyd said about the tempo for a sad song. After listening we feel the same.

It is a very nice production and a well written song. The vocal is well placed out front and, as mentioned, some more reverb would really blend it into the mix.

We always enjoy a heartfelt production with soul. This fits that bill well.

Kudos

Hi Samuel,

Floyd said what I was gonna say, almost word-for-word. I particularly agreed with him on a little more reverb on the vocal. It would give it a little "air" and allow it it fall in with the instrumentation without getting lost in the music.

These from-the-experienced-heart songs really bring home the music and make it real. Although poignant, the lyric is excellently written. Very, very nice!

Alan
