Jay Lindsey (of Mr. Jay fame) sent this "backing" to me. The progression was from a popular song he wanted me to try to warble over. (Bonus if you can name the song from the progression...I can't remember), For whatever reason I didn't feel moved to sing that song. Instead, I started writing after a few bars played on his demo. I enlisted a couple of extra singers (Karl Cutruff and Trev Brown) and turned it into a party. Trev wrote his verse, I wrote the rest. Jay joined again at the end with some extra guitar. It was almost as much fun putting it together as it sounds. My Baby is good lookin', just as pretty as can be. She makes up for all of that by being awfully sweet to me. My Baby love me. Well I've been high and I've been low. And I've been places one young man ain't s'posed to go. And I've been rich, and I've been po. And I've done things that she don't even want to know. My Baby love me. I've been stoned. Been misused. Burned the candle on both ends and lit the fuse. I've lived easy and I've lived hard. Took out a loan to pay three-quarters of my dues. My Baby Love me. TREV: I've been glad, I've been sad. Felt more feelings than I ever knew I had. I've loved fast, I've loved hard When it comes to lovin' her I got it bad. My Baby love me. KARL: Well I've been up and I've been down I've been on the rail rode out of seven towns And I've been lost and ain't been found I've been prone to moan but never made a sound. My Baby love me. I'd love nothing better than to be able to hang around and at least try to keep up with you good folks here, but all that will have to wait some longer. Good song!
"I've been stoned. Been misused. Burned the candle on both ends and lit the fuse." is just one of many good lines.
Good vocals, the scats are fun too. And of course I always like hearing Jay do his thing.
I'm looking forward to you getting to a point where you can hang out here more often, but in the meantime I'm enjoying these blasts from the past, keep them coming!

I don't care if it is a new or old song... what is important is that it is a really good blues song. Period!
Really like the atmosphere that you create within this song... cool and rousing.

This is my morning. First listen to a rock and roll from Janice and Bud, then one from Bob and than listened to your very good rocker with the funny lyrics. And all this in the morning. What will the rest of my day brings me...?
The song is very catchy and the way you sing in it was, say, engaging, as Noel (post above) stated it.

Great song, enjoyed it. Guitar and vox were really exceptional. You asked for guesses on the chord progression, it could be Mojo Working by Muddy Waters or any of several similar tunes.

Good old Rockabilly, I love it. You all did a fantastic job on this. The was fun listening and I'll bet you all had fun playing it.

Thanks all. I'm working my way up in an attempt to listen/comment on all of you, so if I skip the "thank-yous" here, don't be mad.
And Guitarhacker, "Call me the Breeze" may very well have been the tune Jay wanted to do. I could have wailed on it back then in the right key.
To note: I seriously flubbed the lyric at the mic, but didn't realize it until much later. That's what "failure to practice" does, but in the end it was more about the performance than the words.
Still, if anybody ever wants to cover this, here's the faulty lines as written:
I've been stoned. Been misused.
Burned the candle on both ends and lit the fuse.
I've crushed rock, been crushed by blues.
Took out a loan to pay three-quarters of my dues.

What a tune! The guitar and vox hit the ball out of the park for me. I loved the groove on this and the lyrics really paint a picture. Thanks for sharing
