Every Time The Telephone Rings

A pessimist finds love (and could do with a technology update).

Played a little slide lick that reminded me of George Harrison so in that vein I converted some guitar to midi sitar (via Melodyne) for the ending.

Leon vocal & lyric
I played guitar and sang

The Band:
RealTracks in style: ~1394:Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Sw 110 (Very Simple)
RealTracks in style: ~~2193:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm EZListening Sw 140
RealTracks in style: ~~1985:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm EZListening Sw 140
RealTracks in style: 2452:String Quartet, Rhythm PopSwingHall Sw 110
RealDrums [in style:JazzBrushes#1: a: JazzBrushes#1b: JazzBrushes#1
And quite few other bits and pieces and Realtracks added separately.

Every Time The Telephone Rings

Every time the telephone rings
I know it’s going to be bad news
Bad news
Every letter that the postman brings
I know it’s going to be bad news
Bad news

I must’ve been born under a bad sign
It was always raining in my heart
Even though my eyes were wide open
Seemed like I was stumbling in the dark

Then one day I found you
Hit the jackpot, grabbed the golden ring
Now I only long to be around you
Suddenly I feel like I should sing

Last night I was crying
Tears in my eyes made me blind
Last night I was crying
But this morning I feel just fine
I feel just fine
I feel just fine
I feel just fine

Somebody’s knocking on my door
Sure to be the bearer of bad news
Bad news
Like every time before
People only bringing me bad news
Bad news

I must’ve been born under a bad sign
It was always raining in my heart
Even though my eyes were wide open
Seemed like I was stumbling in the dark

Then one day I found you
Hit the jackpot, grabbed the golden ring
Now I only long to be around you
Suddenly I feel like I should sing

Last night I was crying
Tears in my eyes made me blind
Last night I was crying
But this morning I feel just fine
I feel just fine
I feel just fine
I feel just fine

Sweet. The song structure itself is quite Beatle-esque, so it's small wonder the licks came like George and inspired the sitar as a result. Much enjoyed my listen.

Sitar star - it does have GH's slide style/sound.
this is pretty cool - Ithink the pianos are a little loud but all else is fine fine fine.

Cheers

Well, this made me feel fine, and, yes, the Beatles are in there with you. Well composed, and presented, Peter.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Cool tune. Loved the slide. Excellent vocals and lyric. That sitar was a cool add

Peter & Leon,

A very cool song. Good overall production and sound. And vocal.

I listened before reading any of the comments - or your GH note - ans had the same reaction others did... a very Beatlesque sound and feel. In fact, my first thought was "This sounds like a song Ringo might sing on a Beatles record!"

Well done all around. Very enjoyable...

Peter & Leon:

Good stuff—agree it has a Beatles vibe to it. Some really nice touches to this throughout moving to the different segments of the song. Great collaboration—cool tune!

All my best,

Peter & Leon,
Feeling fine after listening to the nonchalant nothing-bothers-me Ringoness of your song!
An excellent vocal and inspired arrangement.
Well done.

Yep, a touch of the Beatles. I really liked you vocal in this one. Very nice backing tracks also. Super mix also.

Hi Peter and Leon,

Yes, I can hear the George influence in that lick. Always loved his slide playing, very underrated guitarist IMHO.

Nice vocal and lyrics from Leon.

Good song guys, enjoyed the listen!

Put a smile on my face. A novel kind of love song ... all hippy and left-field, musically and lyrically respectively ;-) Genuinely loved it!!!

Well by the US calendar you were a day late posting this smile

A happy ditty for a gloomy rainy day!

Janice said, "being a sentimental fool I love the lyrics!"

Beatlesque, Peteresque & Leonesque...whatever it's super cool.

We agree with Dave regarding George being under rated and his
slide playing is unique which you well captured. And the sitar
addition iced the cake.

Hey, y'all sang it well too!

Despite the pessimism in the lyrics. this was a jolly, gentle musical romp.

Love the slide. Yes--very Harrison. I love the ending sitar chord.

Peter, it sounds like George Harrison showed up and inserted some of his signature sound with that slide stuff going on! I like the way this drifts from a country sound to a beatlesque pop sound! Loved it! Thanks, Torrey
