EDM 2

EDM is a genre that I am not that familiar with but I had some good suggestions on how to improve in that genre. However mixing for EDM is still my weak point so I am asking if this is a good EDM mix. Thanx in advance for your time.

BiaB Style - Proton High-Energy MIDI Club
Tempo - 130 BPM

I deleted the Guitar
Bass - Kontakt - Brain Wave Theta Sub and Absolute Killer
Strings - Kontakt - Vintage Horns - Detroit Soul Big Section
Piano - Synthmaster2 - BT Melting Images

Me Via my keyboard Controller:
UVI Workstation - Whoosh FX
Kontakt - Short Noise - ARP Sinfield
Synthmaster One - Arp Multi Saw

I just posted a selfie and all of the responses were get well soon!

Hi Mario.
These are some simple basic elements of EDM and are a good place to start. Using these will elevate your production to a new level.
Avoid overcrowding your mix with too many elements. Keep the arrangement simple and focus on essential sounds to prevent listener overwhelm and maintain clarity in your track.
The very first thing you must have is decent 808's. 808's are usually played in conjunction with the kick drums. Here is a very good 808 plug in for just a few bucks.
Experiment with Reversed Samples: Take a snare hit, add short reverb, bounce it to a new audio file, then reverse it. Place the reversed sample before or alongside your original snare hits to create an engaging effect.
Make use of low and high pass filters There is a ton of info on utube.
Drops are a major component of EDM, Trap, Techno etc so it's good to learn how to do them.
I've got a hunch that you will be very good at this.

Ok, Grandmaster Mario...

This is fun! I know less than nothing about EDM, so I can't answer the "is this a good EDM mix?" question, but like the soundscape you've painted here. You're having a lot of fun with the extended vamp, and it's always nice to hear your added bits, regardless of the genre.

Was going to sprinkle this post with EDM slang, but I did a Google search and it hurt my head. But not this song. Ha!

Don't stop...

Mario,

It's hard for me to believe that you have any musical weak points. This sounds absolutely great. You consistently bring your own touch to any genre that you tackle.

This sounds great - would like to hear more in this style.

Mario, I know nothing about EDM but I do know something about enjoyable dance music and there is so much good in this.
The tambourine and other percussion really drive this forward and I liked how you changed the tonal center.
I could easily see a room full of 20-something's bouncing and throbbing to this beat.
I say great job.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Thanx Izzy for all of this information. I have an 808 VSTi and I know about and use filters. The rest are things I would never have thought of so thanx for those. I printed your suggestions and if I do another EDM I will try to incorporate them.

My only goal here was to prove that with BiaB and a little imagination you can produce any genre of music. I just chose EDM because no one else was doing that genre.

Thanx Ron. I know very little about EDM myself. It is a genre that I don't really listen to or study. By doing EDM I was just trying to prove how versatile BiaB can be.

Thanx Bob. I have a lot of musical weak points! Playing in wedding bands for years has exposed me to many different genres of music and BiaB has allowed me to continue down that journey, you know jack of all trades but master of none. I think that fits me perfectly.

Thanx Steve, I'm glad that you liked it. I'm not sure that a room of 20-somethings would be dancing to music produced by this old man, but I would like to see that!

Mario, you are really a great guy because you always make encouraging comments but because you are not afraid to challenge yourself musically in different styles. So Bravo Mario.

Mario,

Everything about this is done well (everything that is included). A good "top end" again.
And, again, (my thought) it's lacking bottom. Even more than the last one.
I kept turning it up to see if the bass might pop out some. It did not.
And kept waiting for a heavy kick to join in...
Nice top.

Hi Mario,

No, I don't like the EDM style. But you are doing a great job trying to make something out of it,
And that is your biggest achievement. Doing something that isn't really your thing.
Technically, I think you need to add more lofi in it. The bass sounds must be dominant.
On the other hand, the flow you created is very good. I think young people will dance on it and get crazy!
I admire your creativity, but I always do that when listening to your songs.
But this one...
It was a challenge listen to it till the end ;-)

Mario,

I’m not sure I know what “EDM” is in terms of a genre, but I like what I’m hearing. From a mix perspective, I’d like the keyboard(?) to come a little more in front, but that’s a personal preference perhaps. Like what you so with the opening and effects thereafter, with the panning moving from left to right, etc. Great beat to this. Hard not to listen to this and not have the foot and head moving in rhythm. It’s also just the right length. Good stuff!

All my best,

Deej

Hi, Mario.

That wasn't nearly irritating enough to be a proper EDM mix. wink

It was a fun bit of music, though.

Floyd, my bad. When you said 808 I thought you meant the drum machine. But know I see that you meant the bass 808. I'm gonna check and see if I have one somewhere in my VSTi collection and start all over. Thanx for the suggestions.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
