• Fixed: Some VST plugins were silent (eg. SampleTank 3).
• Fixed: Some ASIO drivers might not work. Note that the bug can cause the driver to remain open after using Band-in-a-Box, so this bug fix might require you to restart your computer.
• Fixed: The drop station would not allow M4A export (highlights red) if QuickTime is not installed. This should only be necessary for Windows Vista or XP.
• Fixed: The Find File dialog was not displaying folders, and not loading the song chosen.
• Fixed: If there is a RealTrack on the Drums track, Band-in-a-Box might crash when rendering a region of bars.
• Fixed: Opening a song file from Windows Explorer would not work if Band-in-a-Box was already open.
• Fixed: Generating multi-riffs would sometimes generate an error. (tips: make sure to first select a multi-riff before generating. Also, highlight a region of the chordsheet first to generate just that section as a multi-riff)
• Added: Shots, holds, rests, push chords now read in from BB files.

I use Band-in-a-Box very intensely in my studio. This songs starting point is the style _Surfup.Sty withe 2472 piano,rythm RocknRoll Kevin Ev 165. But normally I like to play as many parts as possible myself and in this case I played all the parts except the piano, which fit perfect. I made the drums in Toontrack Superior. My DAW is Cubase Pro 10. The main theme is played on a baritone guitar ( Line6 Variax). The solos are played on my Gretch Sparkle Jet and my Gretch Electromatic.
I use a lot of native Cubase effect, - EQ's and compressors and as reverb I use TC VVS3. Delays are Waves. I play in a Rockabilly/RocknRoll band but I enjoyed doing this song myself.

• Fixed: Soloing a track will cause lots of distortion on some computers (only applies to the 64 bit version). Also, the count-in will be played in the wrong tempo, sound distorted, and cause Band-in-a-Box to be visually out of sync.
• Fixed: File > Open/Save might not do anything if version 2019 was installed over a previous version of Band-in-a-Box.
• Fixed: Recording audio more than once in a song would fail with various errors such as "File not found".
• Fixed: Audio output would be silent in the 64 bit version, if using ASIO with a sample rate other than 44.1 kHz.
• Fixed: Right-clicking on a track radio might cause an access violation.
• Added: Drum notation can be saved to MusicXML. Band-in-a-Box or RealBand MusicXML files can be loaded to drum notation.
• Fixed: If drum notation contained micro-pegs, then the drum names would not display in the key signature for NON-editable mode.
• Fixed: Song Picker Rebuild might stop on corrupted file with 0 byte size.
• Fixed: Xtra Set Numbers were wrong on systems set to date formats using hyphens instead of slashes.

December 21, 2018 Advice from Peter Gannon - the Roland TTS-1

With the release of the 64 bit version of Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows, you now have access to all the 64 bit synths and plugins out there.

And many of them are available for free.

For example, there is a great MIDI GM synth available, the Roland TTS-1.
This is available free from Cakewalk by BandLab. You install the free version of Cakewalk, and this installs the TTS-1, which is then available to any program that supports 64bit DXi, like Band-in-a-Box 64. After you’ve installed Cakewalk, inside Band-in-a-Box 64 bit, choose the TTS-1 from the list of available synths (accessed by pressing the DXi/VST button inside the main menu- options - midi driver dialog).

There are 3 benefits to installing and using the TTS-1 and Cakewalk.

1. Great sound with Band-in-a-Box - likely better than any MIDI sound you’ve heard before with Band-in-a-Box. The TTS-1 is from Roland and has great sounds, and based on the famous Sound Canvas sounds. That means the sounds are balanced to sound great with existing MIDI styles in Band-in-a-Box, because we’ve always made our styles using the Roland Sound Canvas.

2. Better CPU Performance. The TTS-1 has lower overhead than many synths. It is especially useful if you have lots of programs and processes running, because it doesn’t use much CPU.

3. Cakewalk is a fabulous DAW, considered by many to be the best DAW available. Getting it for free is a no-brainer.

December 21, 2018 User Showcase Song - Stronger Than a Hurricane

I'd written this last year after hurricane Harvey. I sent it to Janice and Bud because I thought Janice could do a killer vocal on it(as she does on everything) They had a hurricane song in the works already (Maria Blues) so I set this on the shelf. Later I put more vocals and my guitar part on but the tracks were all pulled over into my DAW onto one track for a quick demo so there's no real mixing on this.
I kind of re-discovered it and decided that it should see the light of day, warts and all. Thanks for the listen and comments.

This small update patch is packed with updates and changes to your 2019 installation, including:
• Updated/Added: Dozens of new RealStyles and demos added. Various RealTracks and style fixes and improvements.
• Fixed: Track menu > Track Actions > Save track as WAV file... would choose "W" as the file extension.
• Fixed: Audio import to middle of song would fail with "File Not Found" error.
• Fixed: Importing or opening audio files (MP3, WMA, M4A) might fail in the 64 bit version.

There is also an included DAW Plugin update to 1.11.7:
• Added: Band-in-a-Box® DAW Plugin Folder Locations and Settings are saved between sessions. Settings are saved in C:\users\public\ticket]
• Added: FX versions of the VST2 and VST3 Plugins for programs that don't recognize VST instruments, such as Audition. Installed to bb\BBPlugins\Files\. If you need these files, copy them from here to your VST folder.

•All the MIDI Drums have drum notation. Play the MIDI Drums and open the Notation window. Then, select the Drums track and you will see drum notation.
•Drum notation can be entered by a user on the Melody/Soloist track.

For anyone of my age, the first few trilling notes of Lalo Shiffrin's theme immediately perk up your ears, and maybe hair stand up on the back of your neck!

Peter Graves, the star of the show, once said that "well, each mission was all just a big head game.."

I used a 9/8 time sig, to pay tribute to Shiffrin's 5/4 scheme, and then tried to use both music and lyric to create a mysterioso, covert, espionage feel.

December 14, 2018 Notation Enhancements in Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows!

There are Notation Enhancements in the NEW Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows! These include:
•A new button in the Print Options dialog which lets you quickly print a "chords only" fake sheet. You can also access this from the right-click menu on the chord sheet.
•A new track type (Drums) is now available for The Melody and Soloist tracks.
•Clicking close to a stave line will put a note on the stave line instead of between stave lines. (Previously, you had to click extremely close to a stave line to insert a note on The line.)
•Double-clicking on the Standard mode Notation window (or on the time line in Editable or Staff Roll mode) plays the song from the current time location. Previously, it played the song from the beginning of the current bar.
•Holding down the [Ctrl] key and pressing the zoom in/out buttons results in finest possible incremental adjustment in size.
•In The Notation Windows Options dialog, The clefs split point asterisk indicates that C5* is middle C.
•Pressing The space bar plays the song from the current time location, not the current bar.
•The clefs split point can be set by the spin controls.
•The right-click menu in the Editable or Staff Roll mode Notation window has an option to change the current beat resolution. Previously, the only way to do this was to right-click on the time line.
•There's a keystroke entry notation mode - the 'N' mode, which lets you enter a melody entirely using keystrokes. The keystrokes are N to enter a note, up/down cursor to change its pitch, and left/right cursor to move the time line.
•You can now edit any track in the Event List Editor. When The dialog opens, it will show you the MIDI data in the current Notation track.
•You can quickly enter forced accidentals from the right-click menu.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2019, the SongPicker has been redesigned!
-The completely redesigned window shows information for up to 50,000 songs.
-The song list build is much faster. Approximately 150 songs get added per second.
-A progress bar will appear if the song list build takes longer than 3 seconds.
-You can see the chord progression for the selected song in the list. You can copy and paste it to a text file.
-Many filters are available. You can filter the list by subfolders, genre, feel, time signature, style, songs with melody, soloist, lyrics, key signature, tempo range, and the year of file dates.
-You can search songs that have similar chord progressions and/or melody fragments.
-Hotkey! ss+enter opens the SongPicker, ss2+enter opens the Recently Played Songs, etc.

I used BiaB to renovate a track I had from 2010 by adding (368 Guitar,Acoustic strumming) (1167 Guitar, Electric, Soloist), (2033 Mandolin, Soloist, Country) and (366 Bass, Electric,Country).
They really dressed up an old recording.

An edgy guitar rock ballad with a hint of dubstep in the percussion, particularly in the chorus. The style description says "Dreamy Guitar Pop" - I changed that from "Dreamy" to "Edgy" by bringing in a few replacement tracks. Hope you enjoy my first effort with BIAB 2019.

December 07, 2018 Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows - Choosing to Run 64-bit or 32-bit

We heard you! With the release of Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows we've included the BRAND NEW 64-bit version of Band-in-a-Box®, which works well with the latest plugins and 64-bit OS features! Because not everyone has a 64-bit computer, we include both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions with your purchase - you choose which one to use!

By default, when you install your Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows the 32-bit version will run.

The steps to run the 64-bit version are simple! Just head to your "bb" folder and choose the "bbw64" icon - you'll notice that the Band-in-a-Box® "splash screen" will state "64-bit" as the program opens.
(and if you open the 32-bit version, the "splash screen" will state "32-bit")

Still not certain which version you're running? Within the program, go to Help | About Band-in-a-Box - it'll either state:

Band-in-a-Box® for Windows
Version 2019 (604) <--- the number in brackets is the build number - this will change as new patch updates are released
64 bit application

or:

Band-in-a-Box® for Windows
Version 2019 (604) <--- the number in brackets is the build number - this will change as new patch updates are released
32 bit application

December 06, 2018 NEW! Style-style-style Additions and Enhancements in Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows!

With 64 new features and enhancements in Band-in-a-Box® 2019, we've made sure to add to, enhance, and update some of the Style features within the program: StylePicker, StyleMaker, and Song Titles browser within the StylePicker!

StylePicker Enhancements:
-If the style list needs rebuild, it tells you that within the StylePicker, instead of a message that requires a response.
-The rebuild is faster than before by 75%. It takes 1/4 of the time now.
-While the style list is being rebuilt, you can see the progress inside the StylePicker.
-The style list can be filtered by a specific RealTracks/RealDrums/MIDI SuperTracks or RealTracks/MIDI SuperTracks in a certain number range.
-You can filter the style list by a specific Xtra Styles PAK.
-The dialog to select an Xtra Styles PAK has a button to take you to the PG Music website that shows information about Xtra Styles PAKs.
-The StylePicker can list all styles (including N/A styles) in the default display.
-The Set number display is improved, including sort by type and Xtra styles.

StyleMaker Improvements:

-The new MIDI velocity offset allows you to make styles with altered loudness for MIDI tracks.
-Styles can be saved with information like a memo, examples, genres, and more, which will be displayed in the StylePicker.
-You can import information from another style. This is useful when you are making a similar style.
-A style can have a huge number of RealTracks (up to 70!) because the StyleMaker now supports RealTracks multi/medley feature, which allows a single track to have up to 10 simultaneous playing of RealTracks.

Song Titles Browser Enhancement

-We’ve added 300 more song titles including requests from users, so there are now over 10,600 titles.
-The chord density filter is available, and it’s also displayed in the memo.
-The chord complexity filter is available.

December 06, 2018 User Showcase Song - Circus, City, Sewer

This is a project I've almost completed. I'm still mixing and listening to/applying suggestions, ideas and commentary. I hope to have it sorted fairly soon so that I can sent it to the UK for mastering.
This track has BIAB Real Drums - Brit pop A narrow EQ boost for snare snap, a little cut in the high hat region and a small boost for the click in the kick.

Anthony Andrulonis wrote this with me and he provides vocals which he recorded in his home studio in the US.
I recorded the guitars using a Squire HH Bullet Mustang into a Marshall Superlead 100 - sometimes with a clean boost pedal in front.
The Vantage bass was recorded through a BDI21.
Foscusrite 2i2 into a rather new W10 computer.
The cabinet was mic'ed with a Shure 57 and a Sennheiser e609.
Tracked into and mixed in REAPER.
