I made Your Song as a love story though it actually isn't. It was written as a story that every average songwriter fears; your songs will not be heard again after a while. Of course this always happens, but it can hurt a bit.

February 24, 2020 User Showcase Song - High Frequency Tilt

Here's my first post! It's instrumental guitar-based rock called High Frequency Tilt.

The details are below. I'll appreciate any feedback on how the mixing and mastering sounds, and if you like it or not. I learned to play guitar listening to the Beatles, Yes, Zep, Gentle Giant, etc., so I like combining lots of seemingly different things, which isn't for everyone.

I do this solely for fun but thought I'd go to the community for the first time to get feedback. If you like something more headbanging, skip to the last section!

This song is "High Frequency Tilt." If you play guitar, you might know this to be the effect you get when using a long cable from guitar to amp, resulting in the highs being reduced a bit. Most of the guitar parts are my Strat with Fishman Fluence pups, which has an HFT switch. I used that in parts of this song to tame the Stratty highs just a little. It sounds better than cutting a frequency with EQ (to me). I also used a Warmoth 7 string guitar I built with single coil pups routes that have Seymour Duncan Minihumbuckers.

All drums are SD3 and all leads are me, as is all the headbanging ending. While I used BiaB, I exported tracks I wanted to use as wav files so this song was done in my Daw.

I started with San Fran w/ Acoustic Piano as the style. I played some bass on my Fender 5 string and used some from Biab. The bass is #995. The first rhythm guitar is Biab, with a Fender Twin amp model added. The piano parts are #2460. I used several regenerations and picked complimentary parts and panned them R and L. The organ is 671 and the 12 string guitar is 1681.

February 20, 2020 The Band-in-a-Box® 2010 "Plug-in" Mode! #TBT

Did you know... the "Plug-in" mode was first launched with the release of Band-in-a-Box® 2010 for Windows!

With the 2010 "Plug-in" mode, Band-in-a-Box® opened as a small always-on-top window, and acted as a plug-in for your favorite DAW/sequencer, so that you could Drag-and-drop MIDI and audio (WAV) tracks from Band-in-a-Box to your favorite sequencer. You could work in your favorite sequencer, type a progression in Band-in-a-Box, and then simply drag the track from Band-in-a-Box to your sequencer’s track at the desired track and bar location.

February 18, 2020 The Band-in-a-Box® 2020 Feature Browser! #TipTuesday

Don't underestimate the power of the Feature Browser added with Band-in-a-Box® 2020! This is a GREAT resource when you "know that you knew a feature" but just can't quite remember how to find it!

Simply click on the [?] at the top of the program (near the Mixer on the right) to launch this feature. From there, simply type in your query, or choose from the long list that appears in the Feature Browser window. If you're typing it in, you'll see that list change to only show the results that could fit your search - once you find what you're looking for, you can read more about it when you choose [Manual], if there's a video for the feature you can choose [Video] to view it, OR - if you don't need to read about the feature and just want to USE it, choose [Do it] and you're all set!

I am so excited to present Band-in-a-Box 2020 at this year's FAWM.... I hope I am going to get enough time to finish the 14 songs this year. I have started a hectic contract which is getting in the way! Very quick recording on this one so there are a few issues....but here goes anyway.

...I’m going to post something a bit different from my usual stuff today - here’s the back story:

Last summer my brother sent me an mp3 file with just a melody he had sung, some funny German lyrics, no harmonies, just some very raw singing. He wanted to give this song as a birthday present to his girl friend and asked me if I could make an arrangement / backing track for it.

Well, of course I was excited to do this, we had a nice collab, recorded his vocal, and the birthday present was a huge success.

I'd call this a three minute song of deep and abiding love. Except it's not. I do like other people's pets, though.

This is a thorough rework of an old tune. Not the world's strongest melody, but I hope it holds together. BIAB 2019 suggested the BBBlues style to replace the original midi.

Right-click on any bar within Band-in-a-Box®, and you'll gain access to the Bar Settings for your song!
(also accessed by choosing "Settings for Current Bar" within the Edit menu of the program, or clicking f5)

What can you do within this window?
-Edit the number of beats per bar
-tempo changes
-Key Signature changes
-volume changes for each track (Bass, Piano, Drums, etc)
-MIDI Patch Changes
-Harmony Changes (choose which bar & beat!)
-access to UserTracks Development
-Clear the Style
-Access to RealDrums features (including Clearing the RealDrums)
-change the RealTracks at selected bar
-Reset ALL the bars or the selected bar
-Access Print Summary of Bar Settings

Replace "ship or aircraft" with most of us and that seems a good description of how we travel through life.
The title line I stumbled on from a travel website... not original, but fair game for an alert songwriter!

Did you know that there are over 160 Artists in our RealTracks & RealDrums library? Learn more about them when you're in the program by clicking aywhere in the "artist bio" within the RealTracks/RealDrums Picker or the [Artist Bio] button in other RealTracks/RealDrums selection dialogs - a Window will open the new Artist Browser dialog.

The Artist Browser dialog:
-Lists all artists and the instruments they play.
-Shows the total number of artists.
-Provides the biography of the artist for you to read
-Offers a text filter if available.
-Has a [More Info] button that launches the PG Music web page for that Artist.
-Also has a [OK - Show Artist RealTracks] button that will go back to the RealTracks/RealDrums selection dialog and list all the RealTracks/RealDrums that the selected artist plays.
