First song in the new year. I've been messing around with some blues this time. A genre I don't venture into much with recording.

And.... perhaps a bit of advice from someone who's been married to the same woman for 38 years this year.... personal experience....
I've learned a few things in that time..... anyway.... this is a new song I finished up and was on the fence about even putting it out.

So, here it is.

I was not sure if I wanted to play on this but in the end decided to be lazy and sit it out.

January 27, 2021 User Showcase Song - Never Enough

Thought I'd take a crack at a Pseudo Pop Song created in Band in a Box 2021.

Utility Tracks helped out a lot in putting this one together. A total of 14 tracks were used just for the music. Hi string is MIDI synth not BIAB. Played through an M-Audio keyboard controller using a String sound module in Cakewalk Sonar. To take some of the work out of the background vocals in the hook I used Antares Vocal Harmonizer. Great product but you have to get it right to use it properly. My usual method is to sing into my TASCAM but since I had a FOCUSRITE interface I decided to use it singing directly into my PC. I think it worked great and I may continue to use it in the future instead of my TASCAM.

Style was "Electronic Chillout POP"

January 26, 2021 Band-in-a-Box® Resource: Installing Your RealTracks

Properly installing your RealTracks and setting up the directory should be done before you try to create a song with Band-in-a-Box®.

During the setup process, make sure you note the location you've installed these to when you're looking at the "Select Destination Location" window (typically this is your C:\bb folder). Then, when you're in Band-in-a-Box, visit the RealTracks Preferences (settings) window and double check the "Custom RealTracks folder" location to confirm it's the same as your installed location. If not, simply place a checkmark next to "Use a customer folder location..." and update the path.

The next time you open the RealTracks Picker, choose [Rebuild and Fix] button, and you'll see the entire list of your installed RealTracks... don't forget to [Rebuild] your StylePicker too!

Note: the same steps apply to the RealDrums.

Wild Women (public domain) was recorded in 1924 by Ida Cox -- the uncrowned queen of the blues. This is a departure from the original arrangement and melody but the lyrics are the same - a nearly 100 year old woman's lib statement! Our objective was a 30’s “jump blues” vibe with the piano centric rhythm along with a bit of a modern sound.

January 22, 2021 User Showcase Song - We Had Some Times

Happy New Year forum friends!! Here's to hoping '21 is better. Listened to a lot of great stuff over the past week and will continue to catch up. This song is a tribute to an old friend. We were college roommates. He was warm, charismatic, and funny as hell. He was also extremely wild and out of control at times. Around 2016, I looked him up on Facebook after not having seen him for more than a decade. The song pretty much tells the story better than I can in a narrative form. He apparently was killed as a pedestrian in Oklahoma City. I'm guessing some kind of chemical alteration was involved. So sad. I will always love him. Always love to hear what you think. January 21, 2021 User Showcase Song - Green Line

Hi the Members of biab,

On this site, little electro music is offered. This is due to the available realtracks which are few in number (as in the symphony orchestra). To compose electro music, I start from vst biab for chords, I look for midi biab files (often forgotten by the years) which can give a melody. If so, I replace the sounds with electro vst and it works. For this composition, I selected vst sample logics and heavyocity to give a cachet and perfect the arrangement. In my daw studio, I imported my chords, which made it easier for me with the other solo midi tracks from Biab. And it works. Electro music is mainly based on an assembly of loops offered by specific vsts. The work is based more on sound than on melody. Now, the result may or may not be popular. But here I am showing an opening with my favorite biab tool. The next soundtrack, I will only do it with biab realtracks.

It's up to you to judge, but feedback would be a pleasure to allow me to progress.

I used a lot of stuff.
Part A used a loop from Splice that I modified and deepened with other drums I created. I also implemented staccato synth/strings with the plugin Scaler (part A).

Part B uses Ez drummer and BIAB for
- the bass
- the electric piano chords and solo
- the sax solos

Solo Electric piano, RT 1243 "smooth jazz poppy"
electric piano chords, RT 1437 "jazz funk groovin"
Basse, RT 903 "smooth cool"
sax solo, RT 1060 "smooth jazz balad"

I play the guitars

Mixed in reaper, Ozone 9, THU full plugin for my guitar sounds (2 sounds used).

Then created the clip.

The lyric hook came to me last spring while I was working in the raspberry patch. I put it in my song ideas notebook and fleshed it out recently during this holiday break. I haven't had any time to be clever or melodically inventive---only a bit of time to have some fun.

For those of you outside the states who might not get my salt blast reference: In gun lore, supposedly if you fill your shotgun shells with rock salt, you create a non-lethal blast that stings like hell from the salt piercing the flesh. Please don't try this at home.

Happy New Year!!! How is everyone? I hope you will all continue to make stunning music throughout 2021, to keep us all sane :-) Special thanks to PG Music for having created such superb means for us to make music through and with! and to all the incredible musicians on these forums, who create it all!

Here's my first effort of 2021 - a small, instrumental track. I hope to write more of these in due course - hope that this is the first of a few more, though let's see what happens.

January 06, 2021 User Showcase Song - Really There's Nothing To Say

In my last post, I mentioned how many songs I've written and how many I've thrown away.
As I said, I started writing when I was 14.
The first song I ever "kept" came about 6 years later (1975).
First time I had thought... "This doesn't totally suck."

REALLY THERE'S NOTHING TO SAY

I only keep it still for the sake of nostaglia.
I figured I'd throw it against the wall here.
Warts and all.
Beginnings.
It's slow and meloncholy (my first real broken heart).
A 3-verse song. Standard for the times.
I quit writing 3-verse songs about 1985.
So...going back 45 years...
