I recently returned home from a 5 month RV trip to the Northeast. As always I managed to cross paths with some unusual and interesting folks. This year I met a man who was traveling by himself half the year as he has for the last ten years. His wife refused to travel anymore so he went by himself. She divorced him and after two years moved back into his house where for the last 8 years they continue to live for half the year as roommates. He now is in the process of selling the house, so where they go now is the question. I found it all very confusing and after he told me this strange story he said "Well there you go". It rolled around in the back of the song truck until I got home and then it fell out. This is the end result. Thanks for listening.

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Just a couple of weeks ago I bought Synthesizer V from Dreamtronics along with voices Kevin and Natalie. It's pretty exciting because this purchase will now allow me to finish off a few songs I've got sitting in my ‘waiting to be processed’ folder.

“Seven Years” was written over the course of two to three months as I travelled to and fro from work a couple of years ago. This vocal synth is incredible. “Seven Years” is my first effort with it and quite honestly, I’m amazed at what it can do.

I made a funky song, because I was inspired by the BiaB style (see 'Technical stuff').

Also I added trumpets, Normally I'm not fond of trumpets, but the song yelled for them, so I did it.
There are 2 versions of the song. In the key of Am and Em. And I couldn't choose which version I preferred.
Had a discussion with Marty about that (that man advises almost everyone on the forum). He liked Am a bit more, but that was before the trumpets.
Because they didn't sound that good in Am, the Em-version won

Okay, so here’s the thing . . . I’m having somewhat of an existential crisis, wondering why I invest the time to do this recording thing. As you all know, it’s not easy and it’s time intensive, and I just find I’m increasingly disappointed with the outcomes of my recordings from a production perspective . . . to the point I need to change my approach or just stop messing with it.

So here’s try number one—and a bit of a different genre for me . . . dunno . . . pop/funk?

Tell Me What You Like

Anyway, I’m just going to let this fly despite knowing there are flaws here. I’ve skipped doing some of the tedious things I do to clean a recording up. There are no BGVs. The lead guitar is far from perfect (but I’m not going to agonize over a dozen or so regenerated RTs). I haven’t layered in backing instruments. I haven’t de-essed the vocal; and I haven’t listened to this thing dozens upon dozens of times in a lame attempt to achieve some level of mixing perfection.
