June 28, 2024 User Showcase Song - Open Road

I'd almost forgot about this one.... It was partially finished when a new song required my full attention and then something else came along and ...well, it kinda got forgotten along with I wasn't really happy with the way it was going.....But, I decided to put a few pieces into the puzzle and call it done.

A road trip song that's also a love song....

June 26, 2024 User Showcase Song - Retired

The last week of so, a number of sandwich companies - here in the UK - have withdrawn their products, because they got infected with a particularly virulent bug. We were not aware of this, at the time of the infection ... I love sandwiches ... you can put the rest together, yourselves.

Anyway, between trying to recover, sleep and all that, I've just (today) managed to use the convalescence time to put a small song of sorts, together. See what you think?

June 24, 2024 User Showcase Song - Another Whiskey Song (The Best of David Snyder and Brad Williams)

I couldn't resist adding "The Best of", but since it's our only one together I suppose it's "The Worst of" too. I was fortunate enough to have David approach me over a year ago with the offer of doing a co-write. He has showed tremendous patience because life has been so busy I've not had any time for music. I finally sat down and put down some ideas We teamed up on the lyrics, but the melody is almost entirely his work. This is my first attempt at using the Ozone mastering tool as well, so any comments (good or bad) are certainly appreciated. It's been great working with David, and another great aspect of using this forum. I hope to catch up with all of your music soon as well.

June 20, 2024 User Showcase Song - THE HERO

I have at least 5 male friends who have faced overwhelming adversity and pain and tragedy in their lives over the past year or two, but have risen above it all through the sheer strength of their faith and utter manhood, as quiet heroes. I wrote this song to celebrate them. They know who they are.

June 19, 2024 User Showcase Song - The Truth About Lies

I seriously doubt this is the first song with this title. But, I didn't look it up.

The Truth About Lies

About two years ago, Di and I discussed what our favorite bands and artists from the 70s, 80s, and 90s would sound like if they recorded in today's music environment. For some reason, that conversation crossed my mind at about two o'clock this morning. So, I gave this one a try. This is my idea of what Dire Straits might sound like if they recorded something this week. The Synth and Horn Section tracks are buried pretty deep in the mix. But taking them out is noticeable. They gently fill out the soundscape without being obvious.

I have an hour and twenty minutes invested in this one. As I mentioned, my time for music is significantly abbreviated.

The obvious differences are the drums and the busy rhythm guitar on the right channel. I also gave the lead guitar a tiny bit more treble than Mark Knopfler typically used. The drums are much louder than what Dire Straits have used. But I think it works on this one.

Tell me what you think. Am I way off base, or maybe kind of close?

Another thing you might not have noticed - this is the exact same chord progression I used in my previous song, "Keeping It Simple." I just selected a different style and added the Alt Hip Hop Pad - no other changes whatsoever. I think that's another testament to the versatility and capabilities of BIAB with a little intuition on the user's part.

June 18, 2024 User Showcase Song - Shorty's Place

Hi Forum friends. Thanks for all the wonderful comments on Down on Your Love!! It really means a lot to me. There is a lot of great talent on this forum and to get such positive feedback is appreciated more than you know. I know there are some on the forum who are Steely Dan fans. I am a huge fan of The Dan!! In my mind, Becker and Fagan occupy a status in music that shares the rarified air with very few, such as Lennon and McCartney. The more I learn about music....arranging, mixing, soloing.....the more these guys just blow my mind. This tune is basically a Steely Dan tribute.

Shorty's Place

BIAB has some great tracks for such music. In fact, recently watching a Steely Dan performance on YouTube, they mentioned Jon Herrington, who was sitting in and plays guitar on this track, as "a long time friend of the band". Hope you enjoy and would love to get your feedback. Take care. Greg

Welcome to the Wonderbar

I added BIAB drums, bass, guitar and backing vocals to this original track by me (using EZKeys and Orange Tree Samples' Passion Flute) with lead vocal improv by Nevae, a French recording artist. Mixed in Mixcraft using basic kinds of plug-ins, tedious to list them all but nothing "magic" there.

June 11, 2024 User Showcase Song - Walk Them Blues Away

Background:
I got to thinking a few months back what might be missing in my bass playing portfolio and I realized that a walking bass line was missing. So I embarked on a little side collab journey and found it wasn’t so "little". This is perhaps the most difficult bass line I’ve ever worked on, because blues really isn’t my favorite genre and a walking line is constant motion. Nonetheless, I’m glad I tackled it. When I’m too old to play anymore it should be satisfying to look back on what I attempted.

I’m not sure I'd call this a "song" per-se, it's more the result of learning and self-study; a demo exercise if you will. Comments are always welcome.

Walk Them Blues Away

From a BiaB perspective, this song is why I asked about custom endings in this thread. Post 812776

I never could get BiaB to do this classic blues ending so I did my best on my keyboard and on my bass.

June 07, 2024 User Showcase Song - Things I'll Never Know

Things I'll Never Know

So this one's been a bit in the making . . . which is to say that Christian Devienne sent me this mix back in November of '23 and it's lingered since. I really liked the music to this one, and I signed up quickly to be a part of it . . . but my original lyric idea failed and I finally conceded and let it go. And Christian eventually crafted a song using this track with others to great success.

But those lyrics lingered on my desktop . . . and I couldn't quite give up on it. So every few weeks I would open it up and play with it . . . a line here, a line there . . . and a few weeks later, a line or two more. Until quite recently, when I woke up one morning, penned a line or two more, and thought this is as far as I can take it.

I'm not sure what song we have here . . . but it became the lyric I needed to finish. I hope it fits the tune . . . I hope it works as a song. But if nothing else, I can take that darn file off my darn desktop, LOL!!

Hope you enjoy the listen...

June 05, 2024 User Showcase Song - 6 Strings 3 Chords and a Beer

This jam had a very unusual beginning. On May 5th BobH and I were jamming, i.e. just having fun. Bob played the rhythm guitar part and I was playing a lead. During the playback Bob started singing. I immediately muted my part, grabbed a mic, plugged it in and hand held it in front of his face; I wanted to capture his vocal as he was making up the lyrics. Because of other commitments were couldn't get back to this until now. Just remember that this is a live on the spot vocal so it may not make sense in spots, but we thought it was worth posting as is. I would like your opinion on this quick and dirty jam.

6 Strings 3 Chords and a Beer

I'm sure that Bob and I will polish this into an "official" song sometime in the near future.

I played the bass part on my fretless bass and the EP is from BiaB style Delusion MIDI Classic Pysch Rock. The EP sound is from Lounge Lizard, 3 Custom Electric Pianos. Because we didn't use a click track the timing varied around 46.nnn BPM. Thus I had to heavily modify the EP to fit the song.

As always all comments are welcomed.

June 03, 2024 User Showcase Song - Cold Rain And Snow

Cold Rain And Snow

Cold Rain And Snow is a traditional folk song that nowadays is most frequently heard as a bluegrass tune (as a traditional arrangement we own all rights to it). Some sources date it back to Appalachia in the 1870’s. During our bluegrass years we heard many, many interpretations of it. We thought that a blues version might be fun so here’s the result of that. We tweaked the lyric to make it from a lady’s perspective. Folks often argue over the scale suggesting that it is Dorian or Mixolydian. Meaning our two chord version is in an unknown key … at least to us.:) Hope it works for you and thanks to our music partner PeterF for the guitar rhythm and solos and to PG Music for the great session players. Comments are always welcome. We appreciate your time to listen.
