The reason those Japanese asked for your ID, was because they were afraid of you using their software to do illegal things, such as cloning the voice of Kamala, or Vance.

However, because they were too careful, it resulted in their software being not so great.

Even if you try to make Kamala sing your song, the result doesn't sound like Kamala much, is what I heard.

J*3 you can generate separate harmony tracks in BIAB or realband using your own vocal and then put those through an ai . This is what I did in this one.[video:youtube]Stand by Me (capo 3) Cover Song by CooperSync play along with scrolling guitar chords and lyrics

Hey Dan,

Before I look into Kits too much, is it free free or "demo" free?

It seems like some voices are free free for as long as you want if you have an account. Is that right?

And are they all royalty free?

Thanks!!

Hey Dan,

Is the kit.ai freebie (or freebies) free free or "demo" free, that is "free for trial period"?

It seems like there may be a few voices that are free free for an unlimited time if you have an account but I can't be quite sure.

Also, I guess they are royalty free?

The reason I am asking is I hate signing up for "free" tools only find out they are not so free after all.

smile

That to me is a very serious red flag!
They'll be asking for your memorable data next...

Quite seriously, there are data harvesters all over social media and the like, that are click-bait asking for things like the name of your first pet or favourite teacher, favourite colour and what have you. They're building huge databases trying to tie this stuff together.

True, but that's not the case here.

I spoke to Kanru at Dreamtonics about this, and they aren't happy about this, either. But it's the only mechanism they found for identifying people.

Two months ago, they announced that all submitted IDs will be removed once the process is completed:
Quote
Announcement regarding our Vocoflex KYC (Know Your Customer) identity authentication process: we have updated our policy so that all ID documents submitted will now be automatically removed once KYC has been successfully completed.

We have received a lot of inquiries regarding why users even need to go through our KYC process before being able to use Vocoflex. We understand it might be unconventional, or even a bit intimidating for an audio plugin to require KYC for purchase.

Vocoflex is the first solution to transfer voice timbre in real-time using merely a few seconds of vocals as reference. Prior to the release, we have been aware of the potential risks of harmful and unethical misuses, and have conducted a closed beta from April to July during which we carefully communicated and consulted our test users. By the end of the beta tests, we found KYC procedures a necessary compromise to prevent misuses and maintain a safe environment for all creators and artists involved.

For this very reason, the current iteration of Vocoflex still requires ID verification through our KYC-service partner, ComplyCube, as a precautionary measure. The good news, though, is that all ID photos and documents will now be deleted upon successful KYC completion. By the time of this announcement, all ID photos and documents that have already passed verification have also been deleted.

Dreamtonics will never use the data you provide for any purposes other than those outlined in the Vocoflex Privacy Policy. We sincerely hope you can understand our efforts to minimize the improper use of Vocoflex.

Still not a great policy to require ID in the first place, though.

Yes, I decided to NOT get it because of the info they require. I believe you are correct that they have no intention to steal or abuse my info but every few months I get a "we're sorry" letter from some major company that allowed my data to be stolen from their networks. If the big guys can't protect what I give them I sure don't trust a small Japanese startup to be more secure!

Great points. Every time anyone shares their bio or even much less to the internet, they have absolutely no control over whatever they shared. No control - none whatsoever. Scammers paradise.

It's not a small Japanese startup that's doing the identify verification.

The verification is done by ComplyCube.

Not that I particularly trust ComplyCube, either. frown

Uh... yea... No.

A number of government agencies have since contacted them on this — turns out that what they wanted to do wasn't legal in Japan either for the same reasons as the US and the EU.

They have since changed their policy. Once they have verified that you are who you say that you are, they flush the non-essential information including the numbers on your ID and payment information. You still have to show your face when asked to verify against your photo (I never had a problem with that part) but you are no longer at risk for identity theft—or so they claim.

By the time they got back to me with this new policy, I already had my money refunded and my project done using another method so the need had passed. I may still buy it again but not this year.

The IRS uses them, too, as I recently found out when I had to show my face to allow someone else to download one of my tax forms. I was surprised that my picture was already on file until I remembered that the California DMV made me go through it before letting me renew my license online (they had my picture already, of course). Weird part was that after I went through everything, I had to drive to the DMV and have a new picture taken—but I didn't have to do anyhing else.
