Dear Forum Friends,
Here's a song I hope you find interesting and enjoyable. It's called "Lady of the Lake."
In my home town there's a lake named after a Native American princess named Ronkonkoma. Legend has it that the lake is cursed and the Lady claims a young man's life each year. Ironically, that has pretty much been the case for decades. Anyway the song tells the story.

Just one RT: 368:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 065
Midi drum (floor tom) and my debute on recorder.

We hope you enjoy.

I always enjoy a song with sparse production. This is no exception. Enjoyed the song and the story.

Wow! That certainly hearkens back to the Great Folk Scare of the '60s!

It was an enjoyable listen.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

SD,

This is terrific. Everything about it.

The combination of strummed guitar, drum beat and recorder is perfect.
The song is written in a manner that reflects a traditional folk song.
As if it's been around for decades. Solid.
Your vocal sounds good. The mix is good, too.

Very well done.

Very nice. We really like the sparse
open arrangement. We have many
Native American legends around
prices, lakes, and cliffs in our area.

Congrats! Sounds like it came
from a revered folk archive.

Like the graphic you applied
to it also.

Hi SD,

let me quote Floyd: The combination of strummed guitar, drum beat and recorder is perfect.
Nice vocals.
Enjoyable listen.

I did very much find this both interesting and enjoyable.

The old 'less is more' is evident here. Anything else would have ruined this song IMHO.

Great vocal and what a super job you did on that recorder!

Perfectly executed!! The arrangement and the vocal fit the song perfectly, and the recorder sounds excellent. I hear a little Leonard Cohen. Great job!! Take care. Greg

Hi SpaceDog,
This song reminds us of some songs of Chris de Burgh.
Very nice story telling and a very fine debute on the recorder!

Grretings. Sorry for the delayed response. Busy weekend (yardwork.. Boo).

I've posted "Lady of the Lake" on Soundcloud.

https://soundcloud.com/dcspacedog/lady-of-the-lake

Charlie,
Thanks for listening and your kind comments.

David,
"great folk scare" made me laugh. Reminded me of the movie "The Mighty Wind."
Thanks for listening and the good chuckle.

Alyn,
Thanks for kind comments. I like the term "haunting."

Floyd,
I appreciate your comments. I spent a couple of weeks studying the folk genre for storytelling and tried to capture some of the elements for this song. Thanks for listening.

Janice and Bud,
Thanks for your comments. I only recently became aware of this legend and found it compelling. She tipped my kyak once but only managed to keep my glasses.
The image is a mural of Princess Ronkonkoma a short distance from the lake.

Guenter,
Thanks for listening. About the sparse arrangement, I wanted to use instruments that were of 17/18th century America.

MarioD,
Thanks for your kind words. I satred out playing recorder as kid before learning guitar and piano. It seemed like the right time to whipped that bady out.

Greg,
Thank you. I'm humbled by your Leonard Cohen comment. Thanks for listening.

Steve,
I'm so glad you like it. Thanks.

Rob and Anne-Marie,
Thanks for listening. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I admit I had to look up Chris De Burgh but when I did I remember his great music. Thanks for the complement.

Best Wishes,
SpaceDog

SD, You nailed it with the sparse arrangement. Anything more would have detracted from the overall feel that you managed to capture. Not many songs are ever posted here with just one real track. So hats off to you for following your vision. Great vocal and recorder. Bravo! Tom

You took the words right out of my mouth there. Captures that whole vibe very well.

SD ...

It's always a real treat to hear something different and refreshing. I think your vocal is outstanding on this. You voice is perfectly suited, especially in the higher register.

My first thought was Gordon Lightfoot. My second thought was SpaceDog!

Totally enjoyed the listen ...minimal instrumentation and maximum performance. Nice!!!

SD, this is your best sound so far. Love the arrangement and your vocal. Sounds like something live right out of the coffee house folk beat era which is pretty hip again.

Great job.
