Maybe that means something different to the web guy. I thought by checking that box In wouldn't have to sign every time I return to the forum in the same day. Hell how about just remember me for an hour? Or is that box there just to make me feel important? The screen I am writting on in Explorer seems plenty big. Is there some reason why the text can't wrap to the page size I'm using? It's anoying to have it just continue off the page then find it's way back again. Kinda like when windoz XP boots and the mouse appears on the desk top and says "lets get to work...no no wait.... no wait.... not yet ok ok ok here we... wait ok NOW." Amature.

The "Remember Me" setting is working in my testing. Your browser might have cookies disabled.

I'm not sure what you mean. What is your screen resolution set to, and what browser are you using?

Andrew,

Since the refurbising of the forum I too have to sing on each visit, even if I check the remember me box. Not sure what is wrong.

Hello Danny,

Thanks. Which browser are you using? Can you test it in another browser and see if it works?

Works fine in firefox Linux and firefox on Win 7. No complaints about the forum size, nor remembering me. In fact I have only logged in about twice in a couple of years. New O/S both times.

Not sure as I do not have Firefox installed just IE8, but that is all I have been using long before the site revamp and the "remember me" feature worked then.

Hi Danny,

When I enter the forums, I come through the homepage of PG Music (www.pgmusic.com).

I click on "Forums" and then get taken to the "View All Forums" page. At this stage, the heading of the page contains "Login" in large characters (indicating that I have not been logged in). I never click on that. I simply click on one of the forum (e.g. Off Topic) and I'm automatically logged in as I enter that forum.

Also, I never click "Logout" when closing the forums down. I simply close my web browser.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Noel,

If you don't logout, are you being remembered when you "return" or, did you ever "leave"?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Danny,

As long as I never "Logout", I am remembered. If I do inadvertently click on Logout then I am not remembered and need to sign in again next time I come to the forums.

Regards,
Noel

Noel,

That is my point . . . used to be able to sign in, click remember me and then log out, and the next time I signed in all I had to do was start typing the first letter of my login name and the blanks would fill in the remainder of my login name and my password automaticaly. That is what I call remembering me.

Thanks my friend,

That is not what "remember me" is. What YOU are talking about are functions that your web browser does, not what the forum software does. They are described a little differently in each web browser, but there are two features of interest:

(1) Remembering text entered into forms (that is forms, not forums)
(2) Remembering passwords entered into forms

When the forum changed, the url of the login form changed, and so the data would have needed to be re-saved by your browser. But perhaps you had since disabled the option in your browser to save passwords.

The settings of interest in Internet Explorer are in Tools | Options | Content. In the Auto-complete section, click the Settings button. Make sure that Forms and passwords are both checked. In the testing I just did, even though I had passwords checked, IE wasn't remembering them. But I checked "Ask me each time", then logged in, and THEN it remembered my password.

Perhaps my IE security level doesn't allow passwords to be saved unless the "Ask me" setting is enabled.

If that doesn't work for you, you could try deleting your auto-complete history (if you're willing to do that).

I believe that "Remember Me" is working correctly though, which is that if you don't log out, the next time you visit the site you don't need to log in. But if anyone finds otherwise, let us know - maybe there is something else happening.

Well that lasted for about a week or two. It's been back to login every time I visit for the last two weeks or more.
