Post your MIDI Styles Requests here (Note: This is not for RealTracks or RealStyles requests!!!)
===========================================
Also, this is for MIDI "Styles" requests. If you have requests for MIDI Features, post them here http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.p...SID=#Post342842 .
We have made over 2,000 MIDI styles, but some people want more.... which is great!

We need to hear specific requests for what MIDI styles you would like. For example, we don't want to make styles that already exist in our 2,000 styles.

What are you looking for ?Jazz ?HipHop ?Country ?Rock

Please post the request here, or if you've already posted it elsewhere, post a link to that here.
If you agree with another user's post, add a +1 to it.

We'll collect these requests, and make some more MIDI styles disks (likely for 2012.5 release)

Have Fun!

I would really like to see some more styles based on the pop/rock pianists. There are a couple of Elton John, but more variation is welcome - Honky Cat, Bennie and the Jets, the arpeggiated sound of Don't Let The Sun, etc. Likewise for Billy Joel - Stranger, New York State of Mind, Root Beer Rag, Scenes From an Italian Restaurant. Bruce Hornsby - The Way It Is, Mandolin Rain, etc.

I'm not asking for styles that are used to sound just like the song, but have that same feel (where you might say, is that Billy Joel playing).

I would also love to see styles with brass riffs a la Chicago, Blood Sweat And Tears, Chase, Earth Wind And Fire, etc.

For Chicago riffs, for example, put sax, trumpet, and trombone on different tracks (string, guitar, piano) and it still leaves the bass and drum track available. Roll it into RealBand and you can add the other instruments, or better yet, once generated, zap the brass parts to other channels via the Sequencer feature, choose another style and pick up the rest of the band. Lots of options.

If you look at the four main categories of style provided by PG they are pop/rock, jazz, latin and country. I would love some styles designed for all the other songs in the Great American Songbook.

To quote just one example, I cannot find a style that is right for Moonlight Serenade with it's smooth brass section. Everything is too harsh, too jazzy or too bouncy. I usually end up substituting brass for strings or adding vibes but it's not the same. The one style I end up using time and again is Rendevue because I can make it OK by substituting but it would be great to have a choice of smooth styles designed for "standard" songs.

I am requesting this in the midi thread because I assume it is much easier to implement than in RTs and midi suites me fine.

Thanks
Tony

+1 on the rock piano. We've got a couple of things that mimic specific songs, e.g., "Piano Man", and some Jerry Lee Lewis in there, but

I also, of course, would like some more classical styles, focusing on strings and woodwinds (but eagerly awaiting anything at all). Some nice Bach-based keyboard work would also be fantastic. (The great thing about doing that in MIDI is that you could swap the instrument from piano, to organ, to harpsichord, to classical guitar, to harp, to electric piano, to dulcimer, and it would all sound great....)

Some simple piano 6/8 rhythms please. The celtic jigs on real tracks are just far too busy and cluttered for my liking. Just a simple bass / chord vamp would be wonderful.

I second some 6/8 piano and some 6/8 complete styles with all instruments. A lot of contempory Christian music uses this.

Any Specialty styles that solve musical needs that are often interpreted by users as program deficiencies are worth spending development time on. Such styles would be:

1) Expanded styles ... That way the age old complaint about needing more than 4 chords in a cell might actually go away.

2) Styles that work well in a variety of odd time signatures. That addresses the ongoing request for odd time signature support

etc etc

Reposting from the BIAB Wishlist. I put this there before I realized there was a similar thread in the Styles list.

Quote:

I am interested in 1980s and forward electronic music Styles. I may not be able to afford the latest version of BIAB, but put out a disk of styles taken from the below and I'm on it.

Fertile grounds here. Artist examples include:

- Peter Gabriel (Us, Up) does some really interesting ambient stuff as intros and interludes that could be developed into complete styles. (This is more R&B, but "Sledgehammer" and "Steam" Styles would be great!)
- Mike Oldfield (Ommadawn, Hergest Ridge, Tubular Bells 1, 2, and 3, Tres Lunas, The Songs of Distant Earth) has some tracks going that would translate well into MIDI. (I am NOT asking you to attempt his guitar work, unless you want to try it as Real Tracks.)
- Jean Michel Jarre (Oxygene [plus sequels], Equinoxe, Les Chants Magnetiques, Zoolook, etc.)
- Vangelis (Blade Runner)
- Tangerine Dream (all, but especially their Hollywood period)
- Klaus Schulze (take your pick--he has a 50-CD set out. I'll have to do some more research to narrow it down.)
- Kraftwerk (Autobahn)
- Mannheim Steamroller (all)
- Yello (Get On)
- Air (La Femme D'Argent)
- William Orbit
- Robert Miles
- Kitaro

If you want to hear exactly what I am drawing from, go to Shoutcast/Winamp and search on "Klasyka Muzyki Elektronyczne." (Polish for "Classic Electronic Music.") Winamp gives you song titles and group names. I listen to this station almost constantly. I draw heavily on this music as inspiration for my sound.

Correction to the list of electronica above. The Winamp/Shoutcast station should read "Klasyka Muzyki Elektronicznej." I have enough trouble typing in English, let alone in Polish. Cutting and pasting that into Winamp's search box will lead you to the station. Almost anything they play will fit well into this category.

And some late adds:

- Jan Hammer (Miami Vice soundtrack).
- Alan Parsons Project (I Robot, The Turn of a Friendly Card, Eye in the Sky). Specific cuts: Sirius/Eye in the Sky, Psychobabble, Mammagamma (all from Eye in the Sky).

Two Polish artists:

- Marek Bilinski. He creates some great atmospheric grooves that would translate well into MIDI Styles. Think elements of Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, and Vangelis.
- Wladyslaw Komendarek. In a category of his own. In addition to albums, his music has been used in documentaries.

I will get back to you with specific tracks from Jean Michel Jarre.

A big + 1 on everything said thus far.

I would like some midi styles in the new age genre of David Arkenstone, Mannheim Streamroller, Enya Etc.

Also some smooth jazz styles like David Sanborn, George Benson, Peter White, Dave Koz, Bob James, Fourplay, Acoustic Alchemy, The Ripingtons, Etc.

Hi,
I really enjoyed your Soundtrack Styles.
Especially the Piano mood styles.

For Movie Soundtracks, I luv the compositions by John Barry.

Stuff like Dances with Wolves, Chaplin, Out of Africa, etc etc
Haunting strings, piano, woodwinds etc.

Some 'rough' jazz styles in the manner of Ornette Coleman's various rhythm sections with Ed Blackwell in the 60's and his 'Prime Time' band with Denardo Coleman in the 70's-00's.

An abstract non-metric free jazz style.(s)

A straight eighth ballad in the style of Coltrane's 'Naima' or 'After the Rain'.

Some broken-time abstract funk grooves in the style of 'Downtown'NYC jazz musicians like Tim Berne.

A style based on Henry Threadgill's fusion of funk, latin, and New Orleans marching styles.
See any of his recent albums like 'This Brings US To'...'for examples. The most creative player composer on todays scene IMO.

Some more latte day New Orleans style funk.

A style based on pianist Richie Beirach's more up-tempo work in the band 'Quest' with Dave Liebman with very 'active' drums a la Billy Hart.

Regards

A few more big band styles with slower tempos for ballads.

Would like some more string ensembles that are better quality.

Some nice string ensemble and flute real tracks would be most welcome also.

I have asked for this several times.
The current big band styles are all very bouncy while many of the big band and standard ballads (like Moonlight Serenade or At Last) need a smoother style.
