Why is it that the people who tell me to calm down are the ones who tick me off in the first place!

Hey Ray,

Thanks for posting the Youtube link! My jaw dropped and my eyes popped open somewhere between the thoughts "Wow!" and "He's amazing". Considering he arranged and performed it all, it's an incredible monument to his ability. He doesn't look old enough to make such sophisticated music

Regards,
Noel

Strong Performance like this from youngsters such as he shows that music is not in the dire straits that many seem to think it is.

Isn't is sad that he had to actually say, "no Autotune or Melodyne used"?

I saw this linked on a trumpet forum, and was going to post the link here but thought to search first, and here it is from last year.

This is about the only time I've been in this forum. This one was worth it.

To design and layer those tracks, and maintain phrase perfect multi-part harmonies demonstrates both absolute skill, and technical perfection. He is also a competent instrumentalist, as can be seen from his other videos.

More, Mr Collier, More!

Thanks Ray for sharing.

Thank you for stating this Mac!

Now, what this guy won't be able to do is perform this in a traditional way in a club and get paid to do that.

But with the YouTube count he's getting, he's has the opportunity of getting paid in a different way by YouTube monetization. I will be subscribing to his YouTube channel.Throw Jacob a sort of tip by subscribing to his YouTube channel. It cost's you nothing to do so, and will encourage him to do something for which he is obviously talented. Sometimes folks have trouble with guys like this who have clear tone and an obvious ear for nailing pitch. I posted a video here about 9 months ago with a female vocalist with similar skills. It was accused that her vocals were autotuned, and I have it on good authority that they were not. This is one outcome of autotuned vocals and parts, is that everyone expects that they are being employed. Well, it has set a different sort of standard for nailing pitch and there are some that can achieve it. This kid also does a totally legit solo on melodica. Check out is 'I Saw Three Ships". I got goosebumps with the opening bass part and then when he doubles it with the piano line - wow! This kid deserves some real attention. Give it to him!

Mac - Jacob has a note that the only mic used on the 'I Saw Three Ships' was an SM58. You could use this one as one of your examples when people go on and on about microphone choice.

Also check out his original composition set to Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken". Bam! This kid has composition and arrangement and performance skills that are out of this world. Rocks the melodica on that one as well as dang proper jazz skills on piano and drums and bass and......

Definitely subscribing to his YouTube channel when I'm signed in later.

-Scott

Edit: Ray, thanks for posting the original link - much thanks!

Important not to let the one example lead to conclusions.

That kid could sing or play keyboard or both in a large variety of acts should he choose to do so.
