Simple stuff...
"...what best friends do."

Comments encouraged.

I'LL WAIT FOR YOU TO CATCH UP

when i should have been playing with the other boys
i chummed around with you, the girl next door
you were as tough as any kid i'd ever known
a ballerina climbing junkyard cars
that ballpark fence was a little too hard
but you always insisted on making it on your own

(chorus)
i'll wait for you to catch up
that's what best friends do
i don't mind that you've fallen behind
i've always lead by a step or two
don't take too long, i need you by my side
i'll help you along when it's too rough a ride
i might get ahead of you, but
i'll wait for you to catch up

i was always the first to try the good or the bad
beer and cigarettes and lying to my dad
when i kissed your friend laurie,
you didn't know what to do
it took some convincing to get you to come
to those parties we had down by old miller's run
but it just wouldn't have been the same without you

repeat chorus

now is it any wonder
i've fallen for you
but you're afraid to admit that it's love
so i'll tell you what i'll do

repeat chorus

floyd, Another good write. You're a machine. Everything sounds great. i do have a small nit. To my ears a single strum during the break on the word but might have worked better than carrying the fingerpicking through. It just sounded odd to me. That should in no way take away from another beautifully written, sung and produced song. Chalk up another winner. Tom

Hey Tom!

Before I do anything else...

Could you explain this again... I don't quite get what you are saying...

"To my ears a single strum during the break on the word but might have worked better than carrying the fingerpicking through. It just sounded odd to me."

Floyd I think Tommy's talking about the finger picking on the word "BUT" ... it keeps playing through the word..... everything else stops.

I noticed it too.... minor nit. Last time through, everything plays so that one is not included in the nit.

Nice job.

floyd, Sorry I wasn't very clear. In the chorus -" i might get ahead of you, but"- on the word BUT , the fingerpicked guitar carries through while every thing else stops. I was thinking it would sound better with a single strummed guitar on the word BUT as everything pauses. This is a really MINOR nit. It may just be a matter of taste, but if we were in the studio together I'd press the point. Again in no way should this take away from a beautifully constructed song! Tom

Tom...

I regened that area... and remixed. Changed the first two instances, and left the 3rd...

If you happen back by, let me know how that sits with you...
It's been a bit frustrating because I can't get the old one flushed from my cache... I had to go to a different computer (after 20 tries) to hear the change...

I'll be back... I have to go shopping for a hat.

This might be a good time to promote memberships in the Floyd jane International Fan Club. (We're not really "International", but there is that one guy in Miami, which is almost Cuba).

For a mere $35 you get an Official Fj Stetson hat, a piece of material from the bath towel that Fj stole from the Motel 6 on his last tour, and a bootleg copy of Floyd jane's Greatest Hits - 2014!!!

Tom -

"but if we were in the studio together I'd press the point."

That did it... I couldn't let it be that... thanks for the input.
It gave me a thought... I need to find something and get you to do a duet with me - an Alan/Jimmy kind of thing...

BTW.... when were you in Key West? I got married there - My best man had a restaurant on Duval St. (the Hemingway House was right behind him) and convinced us to come down to have the wedding there ('77)...
