The latter fits the song better and rhymes.

Another Sting line -
There were rooms of forgiveness
In the house that we share
But the space has been emptied
Of whatever was there
There were cupboards of patience
There were shelfloads of care
But whoever came calling
Found nobody there

God said to Abraham,

"kill me a son";

Abe say, "man, you must be puttin' me on!"

God said, "No!" -

Abe say, "What?" -

God say, "You can do what you want Abe but;

The next time you see me comin'-

You better run..."

Abe say, "Where you want this killin' done?"

God say, "Do it on Highway Sixty-One."

That reminded me of Rush's similar version of the same lyrics in "Spirit of Radio" from late 70's I think.

For the words of the prophets were written on the studio wall, Concert hall
And echoes with the sounds of salesmen

these are some that I always seem to catch myself singing

amazing grace how sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I am found
was blind but now I see

Mercy said no
I'm not gonna let you go
I'm not gonna let you slip away
You don't have to be afraid
Mercy said no
sin will never take control
Life and death stood face to face
Darkness tried to steal my heart away
Thank You Jesus, Mercy said no

You saw me crying in the chapel
the tears I shed were tears of joy
I know the meaning of contentment
now I'm happy with the Lord

Some secular lyrics and lines that seem to have made an imprint are

Been through the desert on a horse with no name

Workin' for the man

wasted days and wasted nights

Before the next teardrop falls

Ain't nothing wrong with the radio

trailers for sale or rent,
rooms to let fifty cents
No phone, no pool, no pets,
I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but two hours of pushin' broom
buys an eight by twelve four bit room
I'm a man of means by no means,
king of the road

Dust in the Wind
all we are is dust in the wind

We are the champions my friend
and we'll keep on fighting til the end

I've been a poet, a pirate, etc., and a king....I've been up down etc.

...Actually, Sinatra had such great selection of the Broadway and American songbook of ballads and up tempos, that it's hard to pick....

one of my favorites "down in the depths...on the 92nd Floor", or, on second thought, a fav line: "Spring can really hang you up the most!"

More favorites from Don Henley:

"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave "

"Now it seems to me Some fine things have been laid upon your table... but you only want the ones that you can't get"

"City girls seem to find out early, how to open doors with just a smile"

"Loneliness will blind you in between the dark and the light"

How about:

Now it all comes down to money, now I'm glad that I have quit
Folks these days just don't do nothin' simply for the love of it

or

You can arm yourself, alarm yourself, but there's nowhere you can run
Cause a man with a briefcase can steal more money than any man with a gun

or

Cause the flesh will get weak, and the ashes will scatter
So, I'm thinkin' about forgiveness, forgiveness

or

You see a lot more meanness in the city, it's the kind that eats you up inside
Hard to get away with anything that feels like dignity, hard to get home with any pride

or

I thought of all the bad luck, and the struggles we went through
and how I lost me and you lost you

or

We got the bubble headed bleach blonde who comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people die, give us dirty laundry

Don's got a million of them. One of the best writers ever!

another of my all-time favorites in terms of clever lyrics:

"You've got a smile so bright,
you know you could have been a candle.

I'm holding you so tight,
you know you could have been a handle.

The way you swept me off my feet,
you know you could have been a broom.

The way you smelled so sweet,
you know you could have been some perfume.

Well, you could have been anything that you wanted to,
and I can tell the way you do the things you do.

As pretty as you are,
you know you could have been a flower.

If good looks was a minute,
you know that you could be an hour.

The way you stole my heart,
you know you could have been a cool crook.

And, baby, you're so smart,
you know you could have been a schoolbook.

Well, you could have been anything that you wanted to,
and I can tell the way you do the things you do.
*Eddie: Ah, baby, yeah
*Other Tempts:(The way you do the things you do)
(The way you do the things you do)

Time is short and here's the damn thing about it
You're gonna die, gonna die for sure
And you can learn to live with love or without it
But there ain't no cure

She's got the wind as a witness
She's got feelings that fly by night
She believes in forgiveness
It's not love if it holds too tight

Why we used to laugh together
And we'd dance to any old song.
Well, ya know, she still laughs with me
But she waits just a second too long.

- John Prine, "Far From Me"

Well, I started the engine
and I gave it some gas
Cathy was closing her purse
Well, we hadn't gone far in my beat old car
And I was prepared for the worst.
"Will you still see me tomorrow?"
"No, I got too much to do."
Well, a question ain't really a question
If you know the answer too.

jimmy buffett love in the library

On the corner of Government and Bay Avenue
The old doomsday fanatic wore a crown of kudzu
Sirens where wailing in the gulf coastal heat
And it seemed like the whole world was in forced retreat

I paid no attention, revolved through the door
Passed the newspaper rack on the worn marble floor
Near civil war history my heart skipped a beat
She was standing in fiction stretched high on bare feet

Love in the library, quiet and cool
Love in the library, there are no rules
Surrounded by stories surreal and sublime
I fell in love in the library once upon a time

I was the pirate and she was the queen
Sir Francis and Elizabeth the best there's ever been
Then she strolled past my table and stopped at the stairs
Then sent me a smile as she reached for Flaubert

Love in the library, quiet and cool
Love in the library, there are no rules
Surrounded by stories surreal and sublime
I fell in love in the library once upon a time

She gathered her books, walked while she read
Words never spoken but so much was said
You can read all you want into this rendezvous
But it's safer than most things that lovers can do

Well stories have endings and fantasies fade
And the guard by the door starts drawing the shade
So write your own ending and hope it come true
For the lovers and strangers on Bay Avenue

Love in the library, quiet and cool
Love in the library, there are no rules
Surrounded by stories surreal and sublime
I fell in love in the library once upon a time
Surrounded by stories surreal and sublime
I fell in love in the library once upon a time

"Positively 4th Street" is my favorite Bob Dylan recording and is one of my favorite all-time recordings.

(Dylan (tied with Oscar Hammerstein II) is my favorite lyricist).
