I find this site is really clear and concise, great diagrams too

I don't particularly advocate the products but the pages on theory linked below are well worth absorbing in your bones

If only we could just put the chips in our brain and perform to our capacity - but then I suppose, that would take some of the fun out of it.

It's always amazed me what BB could do with codified rules of music - then again, there is a difference in approaching music with the left brain vs. the right brain. But to think it's a bunch of rules that largely require rote memorization takes a lot of the mystery out of it - and this is of course a big part of it for many musicians.

I tend to agree. One school of thought is that music theory is the left brain's explanation of what the right brain is doing. I like to think that the left brain memorizes the alphabet, and the right brain creates the story.

I suppose a proper balance between the both would be optimal?

It's very interesting - but to me, the "Right Brain" guys that especially impress me include those who NEVER learned to read music, and yet play in, from my perspective, an amazingly appealing and 'creative' way. I'm thinking in particular of Jimi Hendrix - he seemed to me to play more from the right than the left (again, that my very subjective opinion) - in the sense that he played with things in a very different way than I would imagine left brain people do.

I thin what I'm saying is - depending on which part you use more, your music will naturally sound noticeably different from those who focus more on using the other side (whatever that means) - and most people are led down the path of reading and rules. My particular problem has always been to invoke the right side - because I'm continually 'studying' the instrument rather than playing - just because of my personality, my limited playing time, and my 'perfectionist' personality.

How can I invoke more of the right side ?

For me the exactness of programmed music is its downfall, its all about the bits in between, music like nature has no exact squares, I leartn this listening to a stones version of Little Red Rooster which occasionally had thirteen bar choruses just musing.... if its got no feel its trash bin time

I agree with the plaudits! They are about the best charts I have seen, including the charts in most arranging books.

To me, these are the interesting sections(see side Menu) of that Lotus website:

Music Theory Topics
◦Chord Basics
◦Chord Extensions
◦Chord Names
◦Chord Progressions
◦Chord Substitution
◦Circle of Fifths
◦Improvisation
◦Modes
◦Modulation
◦Scales
◦Secondary Dominant Chords
◦Transposing

It has taken me literally 20 years to produce charts for myself similar to these ones. And I only cover about 10% of what they have. A fantastic effort!

Akin to the OP, I don't know anything about their products.
