Hi All,

Here's a previously unreleased BIAB song called "Old Red Guitar" that Josie and I wrote back in 2011. We never did get around to recording it together, but Josie did a complete take that I think sounds just great… I thought I would put together a little video and share it here.

A little surprise for Josie. smile

[Link no longer valid]

Hope you enjoy it.

Bob

Hi Bob, glad you posted this. She is sounding a little Bobby Gentry here which ain't a bad thing. Enjoyed this one very much.

"Hope you enjoy it", nope loved it!

I agree with the bobby Gentry remark. Josie you sound great as always and that lead guitar work was fantastic.

Unclear if the pianist is a total beginner or a professional jazz player?

Oh my goodness! Bob you caught me so off guard with this that I was sitting here speechless! What a total surprise!

Thank you for doing this. I sent you an email. grin

Nels, Mario, Eric, Robert and Greg,

Thank you guys for all the kind words.

We wrote this about an old street musician busking in New Orleans. Here are the lyrics:

Old Red Guitar ©2011 Josie Beck/Robert Dean

Rubbing his eyes in the July heat
He opens his case shaking off the sleep
Stretching his fingers to get reborn
One more song on this delta morning

Got his corner, got his sound
Watch the tourists gather round
Plays some Muddy to start the day
Pulling his hat down to get some shade

When his fingers bend those strings
Some folks claim there’s an angel singing
Day into night down by the river of dreams

Oh he ain’t no superstar
Catching dollars in a ma’naise jar
Living bar to bar
Playing his old red guitar

He sings a sermon in a voice so low
Gospel and blues no rock and roll
Old man river’s kicking up a storm
Won’t be long before the rain is pouring

Little swig of strawberry wine
Watch the tourists killing time
Eighty years have come and gone
Him and old red keep playing on

Josie

Josie/Bob,

Excellent song, guys! A very solid write. Start to finish.
(Each time you sang "ma’naise", I wanted it to be "mason" - but I do like the word....ma’naise...)

Solid production, too. That organ is nice. Good mix.

I have to put this at the top of the list from you guys.

Bob - clever video. Can you make those kids heads bob up and down? Can you color the guitar red? - that would be cool...
(And, hey... where ya been?? we need a bob-song now and again...)

A terrific listen!

Hey!

So glad Bob posted this! You guys did a terrific job on this. Josie, you sound terrific! And this is a great song in all respects. That organ adds the perfect touch ... and the guitar is just right.

That was great! Totally loved everything about it! Great stuff, for sure!

Now that is really cool! The living room, the little TV, the little family. But there's nothing little about the voice of Josie Beck. It always powers through, elevating any ol' bunch of changes into artwork.

Yup.... sounds good and she's a dead ringer on the vox.

My only nit is that I think the music is too smooth.... it needs to be grittier.

Good job.

Josie/Bob,

This is a very nice surprise indeed!
A very smooth mix of instruments.
I do have one nit though, Josie, your voice isn't always 100% in key here.
I listened to a couple of your other songs and I think you are singing better there. However, this jazzy feel definitely suits you.
I love the warm and very subtle timbre in your voice.

Regards,
Rob

Now that was a very pleasant look-see and listen.

Glad this one was revived. Nice vocal, production
and a cool video.

Great way to reappear Bob!
