I am a newbie and I want to learn the style picker. I prefer videos. I am having trouble getting the styles to play the recognized melody that I chose.

Paul,

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Am I correctly interpreting you to mean that if (say) you load in a style that lists 'Hotel California' as one of the songs it's appropriate for, you'd like to hear 'Hotel California' played by the melody?

If the above is the case, BIAB styles do not provide the melody; they provide the backing to accompaniment for someone to play or to sing the melody. That being said, it would be possible to obtain a midi file from the net and import the melody of that into a BIAB backing. (Success of this latter importing approach would vary depending on how the midi file was originally created.)

Regards,
Noel

Yes,

Further to what Noel said - melodies are protected by international copyright while chord progressions are not. Style Picker suggests styles that "approximate" the song style but, obviously, tweaking of instruments will be necessary. I rather enjoy the Style Picker, especially in v2016. It is a wonderful "idea generator.

Example: One can capture the Eagles vibe without infringing copyright.

Paul,

I'm originally from Seattle and a friend of former KJR DJ, Bob Rivers. Bob teaches BIAB in his Broadcasting Course at Green River College in Auburn. Sign uo for the course. You won't regret it.
