Band-in-a-Box has been around a long, long time! Band-in-a-Box 8 was released in July 1999 - and it received a 4-Star Rating from Macworld!  Read the latest review of Band-in-a-Box (2015) from Macworld here.

Wow, I was digging through some old boxes a few days ago and came across the first version of BIAB that I ever used. Back then magazines like Macworld and MacUser were the most likely way you heard of new music software. The first time I became aware of BIAB was the bundled version that came with my Opcode serial/MIDI interface. Check out the copyright date ! Have I really been using BIAB that long ?  WOW, it just keeps getting better and better with every version! Thanks again PG folks !! EDIT : Oh yeah, it must have been the "Audiophile" version because it came on "2" 800K floppies .  - Jay

I have an uncle who played horns in the old Big Band days. He told me several years ago that he used the first versions of biab when he became again interested in composing later in life. He's now in his late 80's and still writing. I need to ask him about his biab adventures.

I have an uncle who played horns in the old Big Band days. He told me several years ago that he used the first versions of biab when he became again interested in composing later in life. He's now in his late 80's and still writing. I need to ask him about his biab adventures.

Well, I know the kids nowadays might not believe it, but ... I do remember having to put an actual paper check, into a real genuine paper envelope and gluing stamps to the front of it. Then, I would hand it to another human being, at the post office, who would see that it went all the way to New York (back when you guys were still there). After that, I would keep a daily vigil by my mailbox for the next 6-8 weeks. It is hard to describe to younger folks the excitement that you felt, when that envelope full of floppy disks with the latest BIAB version arrived. The anticipation can not be described !  "Don't bother me for the next 12 hours, the new BIAB is here."  Of course we did have the internet, but with 2400 baud modems, all it was good for was printing out the PG upgrade order form.
