Super great idea. We have a similar one from Bob Buford, and what you are both talking about if actual course development.

So, I think maybe you could spearhead the outline of the first course of this nature once you get enough feedback from the group.

That is, let me give a shout out to the PG Staff to say this is great. Wait and see what all folks have to say, collect their ideas, and then take ownership of outlining the modules, and kick starting it.

I will write one.

Be the boss!!! Great idea.

See Bob's related idea in the other post.

I plan to give a lot more thought into this, but off the top of my head, I would say.

Day-1 Open BIAB Program, to quote Herb, go to style picker.

Spend some time studying how all the styles are arranged in categories. Look

Then look at box in upper right and time in the name of a song. See what pops ups. Listen to some of those styles.

Just familiarize yourself with styles and where they are located and listen to demos.

Day 2--Go back to style picker, and find the styles you liked and click load demo.

You have to go to dialog and bottom left and close it when you are done and the demo will open. Study it. Look at the chord progression.

Do this for a lot of songs.

Day 3--Go back to style picker. Create a Band in a Box folder on your computer with subfolders of genres or styles you like. E.g, you might call one "Ted's Awesome Grunge Rock Hits."

Fill up those folders with some demos.

Day 4--Go back to some of those songs and try changing the chords around, based upon some of the chord progressions you have already seen in your inspection of the demos. Now you have some of your own songs. This is the part where Herb jokingly referred to as "write a song."

Day 5-Put BB Manual found in BB folder under documents (usually) and put it on your desktop. Prepare to use it regularly. Start by looking up shot and holds. Master that.

Day 6--Go here:

http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=378483#Post378483

Learn the magic of the period after the chord then p, b, d, g and s, (or any combination of those) in band in a box to solo instruments. (Taught above.)

In BIAB

Slot 1 P (could be piano, or whatever is in that slot, it is still "P"

Slot 2 B bass ditto...

Slot 3 D drums

Slot 4 G guitar ditto

Slot 5 S string ditto

Slot 6 Melody (N/A)

Slot 7 Solo (N/A)

(Note: Slots do not necessarily correspond to the way midi tracks are numbered. To see what channels these tracks are assigned to in midi, go to options/preferences/channels and that will pop up, so you will now how to set these channels if you export them to another program. Not quite a beginners topic, but couldn't overlook it. The midi channels are always the same though, so far as I have found. See screen shot.

Go back to same link above and do to drop box and download chord name pdf and put that on your desktop.

Start using those chords.

REST

Next week.

Each day, go to a different button on the BIAB menu bar, hover over to see what it does, refer to the manual to get more information, and truly spend your time that day just mastering what that button does.

That is just off the top of my head, but as your begin to figure it all out, you will be counting your lucky stars.
