Having past my 30 days Ive decided to keep my BB even though I really struggled to get Sforzando to work properly. Even now Im not sure it is but “something” is working. Lol. However, yesterday I copied my BB2017ultra to my portable drive and took it to a friends house to show her how it works and to play some of my BB files that I have managed to do. I know that the bbw.exe is the thing to click to get it working so “searched” for it in explorer and yes it went straight in and up came my BB and it works fine. So, I went back and made that a link a shortcut using “send to” and it appears in my list with the BB2017 icon. But when I click on that icon – nothing! I get a message saying something is missing. (in my case – a brain?!). See picture please. So I re-searched with explorer and this dll (what is a dll?) IS there. I guess it must be or BB wouldnt work using the “Search”. Question is therefore – why cant I make BB protable and use a shortcut icon please? WendyM

The issue there is that you were supposed to make a shortcut (a pointer) to the bbw.exe file, but instead you copied the bbw.exe file to your desktop.
So you are then running bbw.exe on the desktop, and bbw.exe starts looking for all the other files that it needs on the desktop, and the first one it doesn't find is G5.dll.
Solution is to ' 1. Delete the bbw.exe that resides,on your desktop (best to do this step with the portable not plugged in, so you don't erase the bbw.exe on your portable by mistake ) 2. Go back to the bbw.exe on your portable, but this time right click it,and choose make a shortcut on the desktop
To answer your second question, a dll file is a compiled part of an application. When an application gets programmed it has to be compiled. This can be to either and exe (which launches some application or additional feature) or a dll (which is a compiled 'chunk' the program relies on to work). Some applications (like web apps) compile on the fly, but that's a whole different arena (one I happen to work in).
As PG mentioned, apparently the G5 dll is the very first thing BiaB looks for once the EXE file is clicked. In other words the first reference to a needed dll file to continue. He would know that more than anybody I suppose, so I'll assume his answer is corect, even though you said you used the 'Send To' option to create a shortcut. Maybe you did, but also copied that file somewhere and the search function found it instead of the shortcut ..
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Hello Dr Gannon Thanks for answereing. This is to do with my portable drive not my PC. My PC icon works fine on my PC desktop. Firstly i copied the entire BB folder to my portable external drive. When i got to her house i plugged it into a usb slot, explored for the bbw.exe icon. It found it and ehen i clikced on it, BB worked ok. No problem. If i then turned off BB, found the same icon again wuth explorer and used "send to" to put a shortcut to it IN MY DRIVE CONTENTS as in the picture, why wouldnt me clicking on it activeate BB just as if Id gone hunting for it.? The picture you posted confirms that this Is not a shortcut that you created, and it is is a copy of the application . Shortcuts look different, and they have an arrow in the corner of them.
Oh Dear Dr Gannon. Im sorry to have wasted your time on this. You are SO right. I've done it right now and as far as i know its ok. Will test it out tonight at her house. thank you for your patience. wendym
