Not sure I'm picking the optimum spot on the forum for this but here goes:

If you wanted to use Amplitude to make your guitar sound like a jazz guitar, which preset would you go with? Would you go with something different for solos/rhythm respectively? I'm quite unfamiliar with Amplitude yet (not a guitarist myself), and the bank of presets already in there is HUGE shocked

You have a ton of options, especially on what amps you added, if any, to Amplitube. I will assume that you only have what came with the program.

Here are some excellent tube amp choices. They are as follows:

1-default-American Tube Clean
2-default - Amplitube Legacy-Complete rigs-Clean-Ambience SR
3-default- Amplitube Legacy-Jazz Amp 120

Set the tone, gain, volume and reverb to your preference. These will vary depending on what guitar, guitar's pick up, volume and tone controls you input to Amplitube.

IK has some free DLs available and one is very similar to the Roland 120 jazz chorus amp. This is also excellent for jazz guitars, as is the other Roland 120 emulation mentioned above.

If you purchase the Fender amps package you will have a ton of options.

If you are looking for solid state amps there are a number of them in Default-Legacy Amps.

There are many options for you to choose but most presets will need a little tweaking. I have found many presets have more bass than I need so I have to cut back on them. Some also have the gain control to high for my taste. YMMV

Good luck and I hope this helps.

I know! crazy Which is precisely why I'm counting on the experience of those who've come before me, by asking.

Actually, right now I'm only as far as intending to use this for some promising guitar plugins (VSTi), since as I say, I don't play the real thing myself. So I'm not sure if these variables actually apply for now.

I'm sure they do, but again, before I start "tweaking", I think it's wiser to try out what's already there that has been done by people in the proper know-how. It's important (to me at least) to be somewhat familiar with the mould first before I break it, as it were wink

This has been very helpful, thank you! And if other guitar people on here have some thoughts & likes about this subject, I'd welcome their opinions too cool

I forgot to add that Audicity works with audio so you will have to convert your MIDI to audio.

The tone, gain, etc will still affect you. If your sound source has a deep mid range frequency you might have to cut back on Amplitube's mid and bass tone controls. If the sound source is weak in the treble area you may have to increase it. But as you stated start with the presets and work from there. Let your ears be the judge.

I'm not sure where Audicity fits into this, but the intention was always to be using Amplitude on audio regardless. This thread is mainly to get ideas & suggestions for starting points.

That was a major typo:sorry about that. It should have read Amplitude and not Audacity.

My bad!

These are the ones I found with AMP3, I think I put AMP4 on the Mac with JBridge so that might have more, there's also a free NI GuitarRig

Does Amplitube have a preset for;
Put your glasses on the end of your nose, shorten your strap so your guitar us directly under your chin, turn your tone pot all the way down, put a music stand in front of you whether you need it or not, tap your foot to 5/4 and play a bunch of notes that don't go with the rest of the instruments that are all playing something else at the same time?
If it does go with that one.

So...you have your favourites for a decent jazz gtr sound amongst these, or?

Have a listen to Peter's brother or another artist playing Jazz guitar in the RealTracks. Generate one up then generate up another DI Direct Input one and add those amps to the DI until it sounds like the non DI then save the setting.

Well......

First off, Yes, there are a number of jazz presets and amp rigs in the simulators designed for jazz that can be played in a multitude of styles.

Second, I don't use Amplitude, or any of the amp sims for that matter. I never came to terms with the sound I get from any of them. But... I do have several in the box and I play around with them from time to time.

Mainly, when I want to have fun playing jazz, I turn on my Mesa Boogie amp or my POD2 and set up shop on a clean channel. I roll the highs and bit but still leave a bit of bite in there. I select the neck pickup and roll the tone back to 7 or 8... just to ease off the highs a bit on the guitar. I set the master to a level such as 4 or 5.... higher actually than I do when playing other genres, because I roll back the pre-amp gain stage to 4 or 5 as well so I'm not getting a lot of grit. I want it clean and pristine going to the output tubes.

Keep in mind also, that much of the "tone" you seek comes from the player's technique.

I was trying to be funny. I hope no one was offended. A while back I had watched a youtube or other video with some guy making fun of jazz guitarist. I kind of extended my own humor from that. I actually admire jazzers. They seem to have a much deeper understanding of theory and music in general than an old rock improviser such as myself.

Hmmm...apparently I don't have the "tons of options" that I though from the look of things - If I double-click on much of these listed presets, I keep getting a "Preset warning" message confused

Unfortunately Amplitube list all the options available and that can be very confusing.
They are hoping that you will see something then buy it. I only purchased the Fender 1 and the Ampex packages. These cover my guitar and bass needs although I do find myself using the free ones quite frequently. YMMV

Very sneaky of them indeed. So how can I tell which ones are their free ones without having to manually double-click each in the list?

Thanks, though at this point I'm just looking for decent options for a specific purpose (jazz) from what I already got. But these will be worth revisiting later on I'm sure cool
