can you sell music you made with Band-in-a-Box? Or no?

Welcome to the forum.

According to the rules on this page:

FAQ: 22. Are songs that I create with Band-in-a-Box copyrighted?

The arrangements made by Band-in-a-Box are yours, and your songs may be used freely as long as they don't infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others.

What Trevor said is true. However, the demo melodies for the styles are copyrighted material of PG Music and can't be used directly. They are only intended as 'idea starters.' At least that's my understanding.

Yep.... you are free to use anything YOU create with BB tracks. You are free to copyright them 100% in your name and you own all of the rights to that piece of music since you are (we assume) a licensed owner of BB.

You can place the songs and tunes with artists and into film libraries where they can be exploited in commercial projects. Your music and the production of that music must meet or exceed the industry standards for quality and be ready to be used as-is since no one will take the time to re-record your tunes for use in any commercial project. They don't have the time or the money.

Hopefully that answers it.

You can find my music at:

Add nothing that adds nothing to the music.
You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.

The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Should we credit the musicians who played solos on our songs? Can we credit them on our albums?
Musicians such as Paul Franklin may not want credit for a badly edited, or poorly generated solo, which does happen from time to time.
I play most of the instruments on my recordings and only use BIAB for things I can't do, parts that require very specific notation, or instruments I don't have here. I like to list all contributors, but saying "Band In A Box" played the pedal steel solos sounds naff.

My understanding is that you definitely should not reference individual artists, but you may reference the BIAB program. Others may know more.

Hi Rick.

If you go to the link below, Dr. Peter Gannon (the PG in PG Music) has commented on the topic of crediting the musicians.

Let me chip in here.

The same applies if you make something with BiaB with my styles, or the ones I carry by Roy Hawkesford or Sherry Mayrent.
