Matt, can you link to an example of "playing to a clave"? I'd love to hear it.

I am aware of the misalignment of generation that you mention.

In earlier versions of BIAB, I found that when there were changes like the one above (4/4 to 2/4 to 4/4), it was necessary to put a chord on the beat 3 of the 2/4 bar. Even though this chord would not generate and play, it somehow 'kicked' the Realtrack generation into alignment. With BIAB 2018, I have no longer found it necessary to add this non-playing chord to align the RT generations. I interpreted this to mean that PG Music have addressed this behaviour. With this in mind, are you still having problems with the 4/4 to 2/4 and back to 4/4 alignment with BIAB 2018?

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel ... I tried that trick of a pre roll chord, remembered you mentioned that before BTW ... BUT you got me curious ... can you PM-mail some downloadable (frozen) SGU or MGU file maybe? Meanwhile i am copying (again) all the ST2 and XT2 files plus the RTs containing fiddle stuff from my PG sent USB drive, just to be sure, and then will run the updates from July 2018.

Not only had I forgotten that trick, but I didn’t remember anyone reporting it was fixed. Thanks, Noel.

Fiddler,

Here's the file I assembled. Bars 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 are all 2/4. I've frozen all tracks. The songfile generates and plays ok for me.

Test file: 4/4 to 2/4 to 4/4

A couple of things that I noticed when running this file through additional tests today were...

1. The soloist guitar (#597) doesn't seem to have a great ending. (I'll report this to the developers.)

2. If bar 72 is made 2/4 and then bar 73 (the first bar in the ending section) is made 4/4, the transition between time signatures is played correctly but the automatic ending is negatively impacted. (I'll also report this to the developers.)

How did the above file sound on your computer?

Regards,
Noel

Matt,

I might be wrong here but I get the impression that when fixes happen as part of the yearly advancement of the program, they are not reported in the usual way.

Noel

Almost any Afro-Cuban recording is played to a clave. The clave pattern occurs over two measures and is played in one of two ways, called 2-3 or 3-2. Does that help?

Thanks Noel ... i am in the process of completely reinstalling BIAB, not finished yet.
PS i ran the 3 update Aidiophile 2018 large files from June 2018, only the first one seemed to do something, the others said finished with a second. Did nothing it seems ...., redownloaded them, nada ... why i decided to reinstall the lot. And did not test your SGU yet .... F

The early version of that audiophile update did what you describe and Andrew posted a corrected copy within hours. Then parts 2 and 3 worked. We had to download and install all three parts again. You said you did that so I’m puzzled, because it worked for me and others at the time. Perhaps clear your browser cache and try downloading again?

Thanks, Matt. Wikipedia also helped dispel my ignorance thinking a CLAVE was some kind of percussion instrument. Red-faced, I will leave the thread to it's intended purpose.

Oh no. Claves IS a percussion instrument. It’s a pair of round wooden cylinders. The point is, whoever plays it MUST play one of the two patterns - never anything else.

i have downloaded them (again), and they still behave that way .... i wonder if it has to do with my installation on a different drive than C:\BB ... F

So finally i reinstalled the lot. AND YOUR SGU FILE WORKS !!
I loaded my MGU file (a Cajun tune i wanted to MP3 and print for an on coming Cajun fiddle workshop in Germany i am asked again to do).
This file misbehaves. It's not frozen BTW. Over the one measure (bar) of 2/4, it keeps rolling on on 4/4 at all costs. WEIRD.
Also the the loaded RT is always 430 ... i select 595, still 430 loads. Funny is that i can select another RT, not 595.
The RT page rebuild shows no errors, and with your file i can switch to 430 or 595 any way i like.

Somethings wrong with my MGU file; i'll send you a frozen file to your private mail, in a short while.
Only thing i can think of is that i use a style i made, some years ago, at probably double speed, as i have to load the RT set to half-time .... might f*ck up matters.

Thanks for the help so far Bro ! PS i am beginning to feel a little embarrassed about the way i started this OP. - F

Fiddler, so you’re good now with that audiophile patch in three files?

FYI no, it wouldn’t matter where they go so long as:
1) it’s not in C:/Program Files
2)!it’s where the other RealTracks are
3) there’s enough space
4) you point to it in Options, RealTracks, Custom,

Nope, the new downloads behave the same. I mailed support today asking if they erroneously might have posted the wrong ones again. I experienced with a location for the unpacking ... nothing there.

No reply so far, also no reply on my frozen file with the beat count errors sent Sept 30th.

Good working theory, give what has happened. But let's first compare what you have with what worked for me:

It's both an instrument and a rhythm. The most obvious example of a clave rhythm is Tito Puente's or Santana's Oye Como Va. The whole band is doing it. If that song doesn't burn it into your brain nothing will.

My file sizes seem to be different, i also downloaded them again the same thus ...

Meanwhile got an answer from PG; they tested the installers, say they're OK, but stll won't run on my system (both win10 x64 Pro or LTSB). Maybe due a windows update error, but other PG installers run fine ....

PS added info: Just ran the installers on a Win 8.1 64bit Enterprise laptop. Hidden administrator mode AND user mode logins. They won't run there either.

File sizes below & thanks

Conclusion about the misbehaving RT and 2/4 - 4/4 changes within a song so far from Noel & mepoorself: the bug is not a bug as long as you do not set the RT to halftime as i did. Loaded the affected MGU with another style with half the BPM count, and the RT set to 'normal', eureka, it worked. Noel reported these scientific analistic results to PG, hope there will be more added fixes to enjoy when the man (BIAB 2019?) comes around ....... F

You probably tried this already, but just in case you didn’t.

At the bottom of the screenshots you posted of the installers there is a security warning saying that the file might be blocked. Did you try and check the “unblock” box and run it?
