This is a very good video about how to get the right loudness for your track if you are going to publish it on YouTube or Spotify (and other places). The problem with SoundCloud is that they just accept our tracks how they are, but in order to make it sound good on other platforms you need to be careful with the loudness of the tracks so the dynamics of the song doesn't get destroyed.
This is a good video. Understanding LUFS is very valuable when posting productions on the internet.
Interesting, I notice that Reaper is used in the above video and I thought I'd post this extra information on the off-chance that it might be useful for some.
Anyone who uses later versions of Reaper has a 'Loudness' analyser available under the "Extensions" menu. I use this one all the time. This analyser also allows for adjustment of normalisation to a nominated value. It is this feature that I use adjust the overall LUFS.
There are many tools out there that help most are cheap or free. In my case these days I tend to use Ozone which has streaming level pretty much preset. In the chain I also have the Youlean LUFS meter which is a free download. (The Melda meter used in the video also free is harder than Youlean to interpreters I think.) I also have Voxengo Span in the chain which also displays the true levels not that I use it for loudness. I let Ozone do its thing set at -14LUFS. Normally that is all I need.
I used to use Limiter No 6 which is free and similar (not to look at) to the Tokyo Dawn version (based on the uglier looking free jobby). Using Limiter 6 it was simply a matter of looking at the Youlean LUFS meter and setting the levels. Very simple.

I've been using the iZotope Insight meter to check LUFS and always aim for around -14.
I didn't realize Reaper came with a Loudness analyser, and when I bring Reaper up I don't have that "Extensions" menu. I'm a few versions behind, need to download the latest I guess!
Also look at Kenny on loudness. I had mine setup the way Kenny shows. I must have got my ideas here. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0wPnlND92QU I set my master volume as he has it so the volume is at -14 LUFS at Zero on the master track. This also helps getting to the levels quickly.
Dave, the best thing I found in the extensions is the bit about setting track colours, icons, markers and regions. Using this once I pull in the tracks from BB, name the tracks and run through the song once the project is all colour coded and labelled ready to go. Saves heaps of time and makes for consistency.
