Now that’s the way to score points with the wife. Wonderful arrangement, lyrics, and melody. Nice editing on the guitar tracks. Once again very well sung with conviction. Professional production and writing, Tom

Floyd,

Sweet tune! Really cool listen—slick from first note to the last.

Best regards,

Great job with the lyrics, as usual. As McCartney observed, people can't seem to get enough of "silly love songs" - and why should we, when you both do such a nice job? laugh

The rhythm of the instruments and vocals had a cool, laid-back groove that fit the emotional feel of the song. I loved, loved, loved the build on the song. Everything fit together wonderfully, and flowed from one part to the next.

Top-notch singing as well.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Strong lyrics full of love and sincerity. Catchy chorus. Great production, I like the break before the chorus and the calming down after the chorus. Nice solo and perfect ending.

Sounds like you spent weeks on it Floyd! Exceptionally great harmonies in here and very well handled breaks and transitions in the song! Also great work with the pushes and instrument selection such as the strings in the background and those distorted single notes in the chorus on guitar really give it a very full sound! Great tune Floyd! Thanks, Torrey

Happened to quickly drop by the forum. Saw a new FJ tune (one of my favorite songwriters.....ever....anywhere) and had to stop for a listen and..........WOWOWOWOWOWOW do I love this!!!!! All experienced songwriters know how hard it is to write an emotionally upbeat song that doesn't sound trite or sappy. Well, THIS is how you do it!! FANTASTIC musically and lyrically, and the instrumental groove is PERFECT! The lyrics are sweet, but deep...the kind that bring a little tear to your eye when you hear a Diane Warren song at the end of a touching movie. With you Floyd, it is always hard to say your absolute best song, but it is for sure in my fave 5 or yours, and, at the moment, my favorite. BEAUTIFUL!!!! Take a bow!!! Take care. Greg

Dang, I've spent all morning trying to throw together a song...how long does this throw together thing take?

Valentines Day makes it even more special but it stands by itself as a great love song.

It says it all w/o a hint of sappiness. That's a sweet spot -- literally and figuratively.

The pre-chorus' do everything that I've learned a pre-chorus should do...caused me to study the whole concept.

A wonderful floyd vocal, band, and mix ices the Valentine cake...oops smile

Wonderful!

First off, WOW!

Moving on, there is SO much I could say again; I'll be brief. I SO appreciate this song! You are the master of the story telling song; but this my friend, goes a new direction. It has the appeal to anyone that would listen to it. It could be anyone's story! Just awesome.

Really NIT picking : There's a weird little volume drop at 43 seconds.

Short notes :

Love, love, love the groove.
The drums come in PERFECTLY
Nice effect of the break before chorus
Love the emphasis on "all"
1:51 tasty drums! You placed that really well!
"heart and soul" really great that the music hits for emphasis
Nice, big, open chorus! As in, REALLY nice!
Guitar solo is on point...and love how it goes into the breakdown.
Oh how I love the pad in the breakdown. Ads a ton of atmosphere!
Love the guitar at For the outro.

Totally pro sounding. Man, what a cool song! Which begs the question, who are you selling this to? smile

C - thanks for this great review! (thrown together as it was smile )

I went back and checked that volume drop (I heard it once you mentioned it). It was only the vocal that dropped - which was me, of course, unintentionally. I muted the vocal and the other tracks maintain their volume. Something about that vocal drop made it have the illusion of everything dropping a little...

Selling it? HA! like THAT is possible these days!!! Got a couple of bucks - we can make a deal...

smile

Were the drums the loops? - they sounded liked they were played just for the song.
Brilliant stuff.

Thanks, Peter! (the drums were stereo drums loops files)

This song is outstanding good, both in a lyrical and musical sense. What I admire about the songs you make is that you are always really good at making the most perfectly fitting back track to whatever you want to sing about. It is wonderful gift to have!

Really enjoyed this song!

Nice work. I've been working pretty hard the last week or so....and haven't had the chance to get in and listen like I'd like to..... but... hey, I can now afford to keep my lights turned on for another month... this is a good song. Well done on all aspects.

Gotta love those "thrown together" things that turn out nicely, and this is one of those times.

Thanks, Ray. When the drums work, the rest is easy... smile

Song
Well structured
Coherent lyric
Strong melodies in all sections
Mix / Production
Everything’s nice and clear
Bass could perhaps be more prominent
Instrumentation
Exceptional acoustic gtr

Vocals
Consistent lead
Harmonies are well chosen and used judiciously
What I really liked
Overall ‘new country’ feel
Good pre-chorus (We’ve found a way….)
The space in the mix
What you might like to return to
The drum roll at 1 51 is perhaps a bit exaggerated !
The section from 2 45 to 2 55 – I’d just dispense with it
Very occasionally the backing and lead vox are out of sync
Overall impression
A thoroughly accomplished production

Take care,

Marc

Marc - thanks for the detailed comments. I could see leaving the drums simpler @ 1:51. I think the section @ 2:45-2:55 is a good way to give the drop that follows more impact. Glad you stopped by...
