. . . and don't forget, the 2.9 update is free for v2 users. The Plugin Boutique emails usually emphasize this but didn't seem to do so this time. The update is waiting for you in your Plugin Boutique account.

Dan, you take the fun out of this thread. Plus what you said doesn't work! I stopped clicking on this thread but my wife still bothers me grin

Unclear if the pianist is a total beginner or a professional jazz player?

64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

Those Scaler people again!

P.S. I hope proper routing is coming with VST3 that (hopefully) will arrive before the end of the year to BIAB, so those "Scaler people" (+others) can have fun with BIAB and their other VST /VSTi toys.

+1 on that there Rusty. We need VST3 routing now. Don't understand the delays.

"Don't understand the delays"
For VST3 to be implemented in Biab Delphi then Mac it has to be done by PG from scratch,
whereas if it was JUCE it would all be there ready to go.

1) Will it happen? Peter has said, VST3 will come as a free upgrade in 2024.
2) Why the delay? PGM always takes the spring/summer to port BIAB to Mac code. (a different major topic in itself)
3) Is it easier in another framework? Partially true if you're talking about built in VST3 libraries but then you're talking a complete host rewrite. (another major topic)
4) How much of VST3 functionality? This can cause it to take longer. There are VST2 to VST3 wrappers available that can make it available soon, but not a great long-term solution. Supporting some of the VST3 capabilities multichannel outs, dynamic inputs, sleeping, window resizing, and auto categorization would take longer.

One of the main reasons that people jump to a DAW to finish their song, besides a more comfortable workflow, is VST3 routings in particular. If done right VST3 with its extended routing capability would keep people in BIAB longer.

Studio One (latest version), Win 11 23H2 , i9 -10940X 3.3 GHz, 32GB Mem, a 4K 40" monitor, PreSonus Studio Live III Console as interface/controller. secondarily test on Reaper, Cakewalk, and S1 on Surface Pro 3 Win 10 (latest versions).

If past experience is any indicator it will likely be only a very basic implementation of VST3 which will almost certainly disappoint some BIAB users. Personally, I would much prefer that PGM focus on improving the core functionality of BIAB, enhancing the UX, and adding more variety to the RealTracks. I love the instrument tracks I get from BIAB and my workflow includes it as an essential part of songwriting and production. However I am almost 100% certain I will not use BIAB VST3 support because I already have a fast, modern DAW that excels in that area. I will continue to use the best tool for each phase of my work. BIAB is essential to me but will never replace my DAW!

The section titled The Role of the Digital Audio Workstation on page 7 of the White Paper echos this and has more detail.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.
