For you Studio One users, BIAB 2021 Plugin now supports Block Chords embedded in the chord chart.
To load the Plugins chord progression into Studio One's Chord Track: Select the option to include block chords in a chart drag in preferences
1) (Shift + Drag) the Chord chart to Studio One Arrangement area to temporally add a MIDI block chord track. 2) Drag the MIDI Block chords to Studio One's Chord Track and it will auto convert them to Chords. (you can remove the block chord tracks at that point)
With the chords driving the arrangement you can further edit the progression via the chord track to generate different harmonies or chords on the fly and have an external loop file follow the progression. It is also handy for reference where you are at in the progression without having to have the Plugin open. Melodyne 5 ARA also can inherit the chords from Studio One so you can use it to also tweak voicing or generate 1/8 or 1/16 transition chords as an example.
Studio One (latest version), Win 11 23H2 , i9 -10940X 3.3 GHz, 32GB Mem, a 4K 40" monitor, PreSonus Studio Live III Console as interface/controller. secondarily test on Reaper, Cakewalk, and S1 on Surface Pro 3 Win 10 (latest versions).
How about Reaper? Let me be clear, I want to insert block midi chords directly from the chord chart onto a midi Track in Reaper. Right now the BIAB-VST v2 will not do that in Reaper. I have to go back to the full BIAB to get the block chords into a midi file and then input that into Reaper. Will this work with BIAB-VST v3??
Adar still needs to add an option for Held Chord note for the duration of the chord same as BB Chord Output Midi track. As most virtual instruments need the held chord.
; This file allows you to set voicings for the block chords used when exporting
; chords as markers. The file bbpluginchords.txt should be used only by PG Music.
; You can enter this on a single like (without the quotes) 'CMaj = G,C,E'.
; The first note will be the bass note (ie: C/G). Do it for the key of C and the
; program will automatically transpose it for all other keys.
; Separate notes with a comma ','.
; Any line that does not begin with 'C' will be ignored.
; Valid notenames: C, C#, Db, D, D#, Eb, E, F, F#, Gb, G, G#, Ab, A, A#, Bb, B
; Here's an example that will set all major triads to be in root position.
C = C,E,G
This is from Ackord midi chord detector
Quote:
; This is the chord definition file. ; Here you make up which key combinations make up which chord. ; Do it for key C, and the program will automatically transpose ; it to all other keys. ; If a / (division sign) is after the note name, that means it is okay to ; have this note in the base - e g C/G. If not, it will be an ; unrecognized chord - unless another row later has this combination.
; Every line not beginning with "C" will be ignored by the program. ; Separate notes with , (comma). No spaces between notes. ; Valid notenames: C, C#, Db, D, D#, Eb, E, F, F#, Gb, G, G#, Ab, A, A#, Bb, B
Oh Good God, I am trying to simplify my workflow. Fact is I don't need to do this I just wanted to do this. And I can do it with my current version of BIAB. So Pipeline, as always, I am grateful for your inputs and suggestions, but this time I will pass.
Currently, 1/4 note length chords are drug into the DAW.
They will update it to bring in the actual duration of the chord in a future update.

...Oh Good God, I am trying to simplify my workflow.
Will this do it ? will be in next release soon.
Ya, that looks like what I am after - the entire chord chart dragged from the BST to a DAW track with each midi chord in root position with a note duration in each bar equivalent to a hold till the next chord. The fact that there is a Chord Label to name the chord is a plus.
If I remember correctly you need to use a AutoHotKey script to copy the chord name to a marker move to the next chord.... this will give you the chord track as markers, then you would need to export a midi track containing those chord markers, I don't know if Cubase gives a drag export option and write the markers to that file ??
You maybe able to do it manually by using shortcut keys to move to next chord > edit > copy > insert marker at that location > paste > move to next chord....
Thanks for all the help unfortunately the current method is quite cumbersome I am disappointed with this 2021 VST update, probably need to wait till 2025 BIAB until VST option is fully matured
I had another look at Cubase to make a script for it but I could not copy the chord as text, maybe I missed it somewhere ? as in Studio One I can copy it as text and made a script for that. If you could have a look and left me know.
That's what I've been looking at for the last hour ! You can drag the chord down to a midi track and it will give you a midi item with those chord notes and the chord name, BUT I can't work out how to get the midi name to a marker ??????? The Export midi from Cubase is in the top Reaper track with NO markers !!!
thank you for trying to help, unfortunately not able to copy the chord track as text in Cubase, I do have studio one pro 5, and reaper as well...
So many hours later... Try this on a copy of a project first ! Edit > Key Commands search "Edit Info Line" assign keys: alt+Shift+e search "Insert and name Maker" assign keys: alt+Shift+m Select all the Cubase Chords and drag them to a midi track make sure you have a maker track select the first midi chord item click the Cubase Chord Markers in Tab 2 WAIT ! for it to add the marker then click it again File > Export > Midi File Drag into BB Plugin.
See how it works for you, I allowed a bit of time between keystrokes. It will copy the Name from the info line top left above the inspector. You may need to add 2 bars at the start for the BB Plugin and want the count-in, you will have to see how the chords line up in the BB Plugin.
