Hi, a question: In Edit/Song Form there is the option to 'vary middle style'. Sometimes I find that a fairly average song can have a killer 'middle style' which I would actually rather like to play through the whole song. Is there a way of selecting the 'middle style' to play for the whole song rather than just the middle bit?

Or do I have to put it in my daw and cut and paste the bits I like?

I'm assuming you mean the B section. At the first measure of the song change the A to a B. That should do it. It not unfold the song and place the B at the first measure.

Good luck.

Unclear if the pianist is a total beginner or a professional jazz player?

Hi Mario, but I don't think that's it...

The typical song set up is to repeat the arrangement 3 times.

The varied middle style also has an A and B part to it. If you 'vary the middle style' you get quite a different style in the second repeat (in both A and B variations).

I would say that it is set up so that repats 1 and 3 are more simple and sparse to accommodate vocals while in repeat 2 the whole band steps up a gear for an instrument solo.

Example: In the medium jazz swing trio, the middle part switches to walking bass and more interesting drums with ride cymbal throughout both A and B variations, which is a more 'exciting' feel than parts one and three.

Changing the A to B in the first part doesn't switch to the style that plays in the middle repeat.

By the way, I had a good chuckle at your emotional baggage joke...

Are you sure? I would have done what Mario suggested. In a song with the default three choruses, the middle chorus will be all the B substyle.

What style are you using?

Chris is correct saying, "The varied middle style also has an A and B part to it. If you 'vary the middle style' you get quite a different style in the second repeat (in both A and B variations)." I can confirm that's exactly how BIAB reacts.

Interesting, Jim. That's not what I get in the jazz styles. What style are you using, Chris?

Hi, the style that led me to ask the question is M_JAZSWN

I have found the same thing with other files. I don't know if it's just the midi files. I seem to recall that some songs have completely different instruments that come in just for the 'varied middle style' which are not there in either A or B in the first chorus.... I often use this to great advantage as it can really offer a lot of variety in the piece.

Maybe it's just the older midi files?

Maybe it's a Mac thing?

Maybe it's my imagination?

You can change the style mid-song, and you can use or create multi styles where there are more colors than blue and green for A/B\C/D etc. sub styles. Could you be thinking of that? They are not limited to MIDI.

Thanks for your interest in this.

A case in point is the 'Answers.sty: Answeres - New Age - Smooth Jazz" which I used for:
https://soundcloud.com/user-663569023/what-was-the-question

There are two pianos loaded, 1 and 2.

There is an 8 bar intro (A-blue) which uses piano 2.
Chorus 1: 16 bars A-blue, 16 bars B-green. Both use piano 1.
Chorus 2: 16 bars A-blue, 16 bars B-green. Both use piano 2.
Chorus 3: 16 bars A-blue, 16 bars B-green. Both use piano 1.

So, all three choruses have A and B parts but chorus 2 uses a different instrument.

So, what I am asking is: although I love the variation in this and used the second chorus as a piano sole, there doesn't seem to be a way to use the 'varied middle style' for the whole song if you choose....

(Edit: Demo song was loaded)
