This song was, I suppose, inspired by my father who was always telling me to stand up for myself.

Some would say the instruments used are a little soft for such a song (no trumpets or electric guitars) but I kind of like the contrast.

It appears I have mislaid the original band line up.

I think the back track is perfect for the song. Excellent vocal and very cool lyric. Well done..

This sounds really good: the vocals, the band, the mix.

Good write - straight and to the point.

I like this one a lot. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Such a fine mix. Really good write, Vic. Excellent choice of instruments and the perfect arrangement. I get the impression your dad was a very kind man. He never SHOUTED at you to stand up; he encouraged you. So well sung, and the harmony was just right.

Enjoy whatever happens!

This BAND suits you perfectly (you should list the RTs).
A good write. Nice vocal.
Might be your best.

Vic,
Solid tune in all respects and a nice tribute. I think banjo can go a slightly louder on vocal solo.
Thank you for sharing.

That was very well done, lovely chorus and a really complimentary "band".

Excellent.

Hi Floyd and thanks.
I try to save the best for last but there's always another tries to boot it away.

Unfortunately I saved over the original song by mistake so that's why I didn't post them.
I tend to do things like that a lot, the older I get. Ask my wife (she may not remember either). crazy

Marty.
My dad was pretty tough and spoke his mind. One day he saw me running from three boys who I must have upset for some reason.
He stopped them and asked who their leader was and told me to fight him.
I got beat but us boys were always friends after that.
My dad said if I hadn't stood up to them then they would have pestered me forever. I think he had a good attitude.

Thanks for listening and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Hey Vic...great tune...I really appreciate Americana music that speaks to us on a living level...the theme, structure and style fit the lyrics well ..if I were offering an arrangement suggestion it would be great if it picked up more power at the end on the "this is war..." lines also as I was listening I kept thinking "this is no time to BACK down" as opposed to "lay" down...or even "stand down" a more military way of saying lay down...anyway for what it's worth that's my 2 cents...your voice fits the genre perfectly...Johnny Cash would have been perfect for this one...Dan

Hi Firesong.

I will have another look at the crescendo at the end of this is war. I think "lay down" is more fitting though.
"Back down" to me, implies that an attempt was made to stand up but thought better of. "Lay down" implies no attempt at all, don't you think?
Thank you for chipping in anyway. Much appreciated.

Hi Vircan,

Not too many instruments allow to give a very pleasant space for your voice and the violin (which has an important role). It's nice, well done and lyrics to think about.

Vic,
A good write with repetitions that have a quiet power.
Excellent vocal and an arrangement that fits beautifully ( the violin an inspired choice).
I enjoyed the affirmation here, lyrically and musically!
