A few days on the coastal wilderness of BC inspired this folk waltz fantasy about a naming ceremony (for the daughter I never had!)

Another Name For The Moon

Another Name For The Moon

lantern moon lonely moon
once human face
we wait `til you rise in the water
whisper one word to keep a child safe
always and today
watch over our newborn daughter

high crying loon sends shivers
down the sky
her eyes follow so old so young
what should we name this quiet girl
framing the stars
with her tiny finger and thumb

soon soon the canoes will come
greet our wide eye daughter
choose choose say the paddle and drum
another name for the moon
shining in silent water

jump ever higher
grab fistfuls of cloud
dive deep hear the song of the fishes
laughter and stories old and strange
as the once human face
we ask now to grant all your wishes

soon soon the canoes will come
greet a wide eye daughter
choose choose say the paddle and drum
another name for the moon
shining in silent water
choose choose say the paddle and drum
another name for the moon
shining in silent water

Very intermate presentation.

Love the vibrato in the vocals, when the backing vocals came in, it was like melting butter on a warm piece of homemade bread.

Lovely

Robert ...

You have a way with words that I seriously envy. And your uniquely wonderful voice is such a pleasure to listen to. Simply lovely!

Also, the widely panned vocal harmony on the choruses was so nice! Best to you. Take care ...

Poetic, mystic and delicate lyrics, you have really captured the beauty of nature. Beautiful melody and chords fitting the mood.
Excellent instrumentation, the jaw harp (not mentioned in the list) and the percussive loops created lovely images of water and canoeing, the cello is used nicely to add some darker contrast.
Great vocals with very nice color in your voice, I enjoyed especially the harmonies.

It has a brilliant Towns Van Zandt vibe. Both Lyrics and music. He is one of my very favorites.

And it gets more hypnotic as you listen.

Well done!

Cool listen!

I could have sworn I heard a jaw harp hidden in the instrumentation.

Nice imagery, good match with the instruments.

Take a trip, get a song - pretty sweet deal! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Excellent use of some of the more unusual instruments BiaB offers. Love that harmony, Robert. A wonderful creation and very well built.

Enjoy whatever happens!

The percussion part of the band was fun- loops having to be doctored to fit 3/4.
Thanks for listening and commenting.

Janne,
Yes, there is a jaws harp. Its encouraging to hear that the natural images connect through the song- I`m not a regular wilderness guy, but it only takes a day for immersion to be felt on the unspoilt parts of the coast here.

Lovely piece but the serenity, for me, is interrupted by what sound like edit point clicks and squelches. I know these could be string noise or even mouth noises but they seem to be something else.
The bells & other decorative bits seem very bright and forward in the left channel.
Listening passed those things it's a lovely piece.

Cheers

Ray,
Finger squeaks & string buzzes are a feature of the nylon guitar track ( makes no difference how many times its generated)- it was still the best pairing with the harp.
There`s some mouth noise with the jaws harp to add to that.... what can I say, its folk music!
Thanks for getting past the irritants.

Robert, your imagery as in all your songs would make a terrific video.

But even in that absence it is so vivid that the listener can create their own.

The simple backing with the prominent cello is well chosen and mixed for your vocal and the theme.

Even though not directed to a child Janice felt that it makes for a sweet lullaby.

Nicely done indeed.

Scott,
I appreciate those plays and your thumbs up. Doing the folk tunes keeps me a little grounded and rests the vocal chords for the next Spirit Level outing!

David,
I should change that header to include the jaw harp.
A trip without a song? Not allowed!
Thanks for your listen and comments.
