Hi Andi,

Thanks so much for the positive comments!

Ok, you asked about my guitar sound. Many people will tell you that the only way to get a good sound is to mic a tube amp. I'm not one of those people wink

I plug my guitar directly into my interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2I4) and process the sound using a software amp simulator. There are many amp simulator programs out there these days, some are really good and some are bloody awful.

The one I use was recommended to be by Tom Adams, an excellent guitarist/songwriter/producer that posts on this forum sometimes, and is the Scuffham S-Gear 2 (https://www.scuffhamamps.com/). They don't try and offer 50 different amp simulations, instead they chose 5 and concentrate on doing them very well. Out of the 5, there are 2 that I use for the music I do, depending on the song.

In addition to using the amp sim, I almost always use an additional plugin to add some more processing, mostly reverb and delay, and most of the time the one I use is CLA Guitars from Waves. This goes after the output of the amp sim.

Sometimes I will also use a software emulation of a tube screamer before the amp sim, the one I use is a free one from a company called mercuriall (https://mercuriall.com/cms/details_freestuff), however most of the time I find the distortion provided from the amp sim is all I need to get the sound I want.

The advantage of using the sim is that I can change my mind after I have done the recording, because the sound I have recorded is the direct output of the guitar, not the output of a guitar amp. Also of course it's totally quiet, I can record using my headphones without bothering my wife, very important! wink

Hope this helps!

Yeah, that's what Marty told me too.

Thanks, moto!

Excellent guitar work.

Not sure why your voice is so far in the background - you have a good voice and you sing in tune. I would like to hear it more upfront.

Nigel

Thanks, Nigel, appreciate that!

For me the vocal is sitting just about where it needs to be overall, although there might be a few sections that could come up a bit. What I do with mixes, always, is to come back to the mix after a week or so of not hearing the song, I always find hearing it with fresh ears helps me hear things I missed the first time around.

This poem certainly rhymes, down in Canada. Good driving blues, excellent playing. Doesn't need more words to enjoy the virtuosity.

And, no surprise, every thing about the mix is high bar.

Bud really wishes when he runs out of words he could pick up the guitar and do half what you do.

Y'all got that Tony Joe kinda dark swampy vibe going ... and that is excellent in our book.

Enjoyed it!!!

Love Tony Joe White! One of my all time favorites for sure.

Thanks Janice and Bud, very much appreciated!
