Hello. Someone sent me a bass tab for a song in a PDF file. This file has a lot of other notation in it that I don't want or need.
Does BiaB or Real Band allow us to enter bass tab directly? I don't want to create a song here, neither do I want music or audio of any kind. I just want to be able to enter and edit numbers on a 4-string bass tab, then save this to a file and then print it.
I searched the Help modules in BiaB/Real Band and I've searched this forum and couldn't find anything on this subject.
If nothing exists inside BiaB or Real Band can you suggest a low-cost/no cost "bass tab editor" ?
Many thanks.

Hello Bass thumper, Unfortunately, there is no way, the tab works only in one direction, generated form BiaB, and you can't edit it. More influence on the result or even an editability would be quite helpful also from other points of view: For double bass players the tabs are mostly not usable, because of the high positions and also the many fingering position changes, which can be played well on an electric bass, but rather difficult on a double bass.
Biab/RB latest build, German Language Pak, Win 10/64 Pro, 1 TB SSD, 32 GB RAM. Notation SW Finale, StaffPad, SmartsScore – Playing Double Bass, Guitar, Piano

Deb and Brille, thanks for the replies. Are either of you aware of MuseScore? It looks powerful but I can't tell if it will allow the creating and editing of bass tabs. https://musescore.com/

As Deb suggested tabledit is the way to go. Per the docs you can write tabs, save it a a MIDI file, then bring it into either BiaB or your DAW. Plus you have other options like viewing your tabs as notation, thus learning how to read music. There are a lot of printing and viewing options also.
I would try this and if it meets your needs purchase it.
{edit} I just tried tabs in Musescore and I could not get it working correctly. Musescore is great for notation though.

Hi Maartian, Thanks for the reply. I did notice that Tabledit is not free, but almost pulled the trigger to buy it anyway. Maybe Deb was referring to the demo version which is free . . . Is GuitarPro that much better than Tabledit? I mainly want to create and edit bass tabs but now that I notice that Tabledit's MIDI capability allows you to hear and play the notes you enter I'm really liking MIDI ![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif)

IIRC Cakewalk's Sonar had a tab feature that did what Steve wants to do. Does anyone know if the new Cakewalk still has that feature? If so there is a free option.

. . . Just to clarify, although free is[sometimes] good, I am willing to pay for a quality product. Money often drives innovation and everyone needs to eat. So I don't mind paying competitive prices for a good product. "Good" in this case means being able to easily create, edit, print and share bass tabs. But now that I'm aware of the benefits of MIDI we can add that to the list as well as saving to the universal PDF format.
Beyond this, we only know what we know, so having headroom to grow into a product is also good and if possible to synergistically work with BiaB. As I build my toolbox it would be nice if the individual tools complement one another so that 1+1=5.
Thanks to all that are helping me with this. If it matters, I already have a DAW, that (for now) does everything I need a DAW to do; Audacity.

If it matters, I already have a DAW, that (for now) does everything I need a DAW to do; Audacity. Sounds like you may be at the very start of a long journey. Many of us started tinkering with audio in Audacity .. but there is so much more, and one of the other DAWs you have already paid for and simply might not know yet. Realband comes free with BiaB (if you are on a Windows machine) It does what Audacity does, plus still lets you generate Realtracks like BiaB. You may have a very fun journey ahead.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Yes, another piece of knowledge I recently obtained is that RealBand came with my version of BiaB. Haven't used it yet but plan to when the need arises. In my research for bass tab editing software TheMaartian suggested GuitarPro. For others looking for similar software I stumbled upon this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx1nWYhbAgoA couple of interesting things here 1. Apparently there is some kind of relation between the Ultimate Guitar website and GuitarPro. I guess you can download GuitarPro files and open them directly in GuitarPro and see the tab/notation and even play the audio as the tab scrolls across your screen. Neat stuff for sure. As it turns out, Ultimate Guitar has been my first stop for chord sheets when I want to learn a new song. I would copy and paste the CS into a word processor, edit as necessary and print for my music stand. It looks like GuitarPro can improve this workflow, allows creation of bass tabs and more. This is an example of 1+1=5 2. Is anyone else blown away by the tools/technology we have available today? Think about what Chuck Berry and the early days of the Beatles had available!

My bad. I hadn't remembered that I paid for it until this morning.
I stopped using it a while ago. Nothing bad - I just moved on. After these posts I went ahead and re-installed.
Sorry about the confusion.
