Hi folks, a couple of weeks ago or so I was introduced by Hans to Laurent from Carlos Amigos. He was proposing to both uf us Laurent and myself a challenge to create a Santana tribute tune. I listened to Laurent creation and found it pretty good, on the mild side of Santana's songs, so I thought I would create a tune on the little mor "fiery" side of Santana, so here it is:
A lo Santana

Style is _ZIP.STY (Zip Fast Latin Rock)

RealTracks in style: 1817:Bass, Baby, SonMontuno Ev 165
RealTracks in style: 1819:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm SonMontuno Ev 165
RealTracks in song: 671:Organ, B3, Background Southern Ev 120
RealTracks in song: 1720:Guitar, Electric, Soloist TexasBluesRockStraightBrent Ev 120
RealTracks in song: 1722:Guitar, Electric, Soloist TexasBluesRockStraightSol Ev 120
RealTracks in song: 3993:Organ, Soloist BluesFunkyEvenCharles Ev 120
RealDrums in style:LatinRockFast16thsPerc [Multi]

All sounds are BIB except for a few post production percussion one shot sounds.

I hope I met the challenge

Cheers

Mike B

Hello Mike,

I like your tune a lot. Are these all BiaB tacks? There's some pretty quick guitar playin' in there. I don't listen to this style very often, but have always appreciated it. Since I'm not exposed a lot to this style of music, I may be wrong, but there's an organ in the back that seems a little loud and it made it harder for me to pick out some of the lead lines in the other instruments. There's a lot of music going on in here and I like what's being played. Good job.

Hi Mike,

I'm a huge Santana fan and enjoyed your tribute song a great deal.

I think the lead guitar is too far back in the mix both in terms of volume and too long a reverb. The guitar and organ are the stars of the show and need to be right out front.

Great work - keep it up.

Best Regards
Nigel

Very cool... To me, the lead guitar solos may be Too out front now after the re-mix...
BiaB really found some great players.

Wow! We've listened to Santana for years and this is a great tribute.

The percussion gave an immediate Santana vibe!

Those two solo RT guitars worked together well and the organ solo was strong.

Nice mix and arrangement too.

Enjoyed it!

Mike, I think you've captured the classic Santana delivery extremely well.

The B3 slots in really well, giving the entire performance a fantastic Santana resonance.

Yes, you met the challenge.

Hi Pete,

Wow - that really rocks now with the guitar a little more upfront. Great work.

Best Regards

Fiery Santana for sure. Love that Latin beat, and, man, you picked the best soloist, and such a good band to surround him. Such a good write, Mike. Nice that you can do that on demand. Smooth Bossa is next. Thanks.

Enjoy whatever happens!

HI Mike ...

I always enjoy your music. No exception here! The organ is just so good! And the guitar tracks aren't too shabby either! You nailed it!

Great tune. The lead guitar seemed a bit mismatched to the track - until the B3 came in. Then it seemed to settle much better. Great guitar paired with cool lead organ. Nice.

Song is excellent. Very cool groove to the song. Guitar sounds great. Loved the rhythm section and the B3 was awesome

Hi Mike,

So nice you listened to me wink and started a contest of Santana songs.
And quess what happened? I thought I had listened to all the contestants' songs, declared one of them to be the winner (David Snyder) and then saw I forgot you! That's bad.
And it's also bad, because your song was very good, has that fibe of Carlos and so you came close to become the new winner.
But to be honest, although your song is very good, you also made it a competition between the solo guitar and the organ, where the latter was much more present. apart from that in some cases the band looks playing different from the soloists. Still that's not a problem in making a beautiful song (as you did), but it drifted a bit away from Carlos. So I stay with David as being the winnert of this contest.
But what a quality I've heard from all of you!

On the other hand; keep in mind I'm not the jury :))

Hans
PS: thanks a lot for taking this challenge

Thank you Cuban Pete for contributing and for stepping into the pen of the bulls.

I hope I did not steal your mighty powers, but when one issues a challenge such as this, I feel I must step into the ring and wave the red cape!!

I have responded my friend, and Carlos--he was with me!!

smile

Your Sincerely,

Thank Hans and company, it's amazing how things happens. I never took this as a contest but rather a challenge, which I took. Loved the way people responded to it making it as fun as it could be, besides revealed a lots of talent in this style.
Thanks to all.
