Out here in California spring has sprung. I remember a few years back watching a ballgame with my dad at my folks house, when mom came in complaining about a leaky faucet in the kitchen. Dad just rolled his eyes, and his response later became the inspiration for this song. So, this one is for those of us who are much more into spring training than we are spring cleaning ...

https://soundcloud.com/user-722422510/get-up-and-go Get Up And Go

The car needs fixin’, and the shrubs need trimming,
and the paint can use a coat or two.
And out in the kitchen the faucet is drippin’,
and my weekend is filled with Honey do’s.
But I’ve worked all week and the time has come for me
to just relax and take life easy.
But you don’t understand why I am the way I am,
So, sit down honey, I’ll explain it if I can…

You see, my get up and go just got up and went.
My fast became slow, when my last dollar’s spent.
My yes became no, and my can became can’t
‘cause my get up and go just got up and went.
Yes, my get up and go just got up and went.

Now, the baseball game is on TV.
It’s calling my name and my destiny
is to sit on the couch and be lazy.
Now what’s the matter honey, why can’t you see…

That my get up and go just got up and went.
My fast became slow, when my last dollar’s spent.
My yes became no, and my can became can’t
‘cause my get up and go just got up and went.
Yes, my get up and go just got up and went.

So, on Saturday night I took out my wife
to apologize and make things right.
And she looked so good that when we went to bed,
you know, I asked her if I could, but she looked at me and said …

That her get up and go just got up and went.
Her fast became slow when my last dollar’s spent.
And her yes became no and my can became can’t
‘cause my get up and go just got up and went.

Oh, my get up and go just got up and went.
My fast became slow when my last dollar’s spent.
Her yes became no and my can became can’t
‘cause my get up and go just got up and went.
Oh, my get up and go just got up and went.

Oh, my get up and go got up and went. My get up and go got up and went.
My get up and go just got up and went.

Everything on here, except the vocals, is a BiaB track:

Drums: Brian Fullen _HKYTJON.STY
Bass: Dow Tomlin _HKYTJON.STY
Acoustic Rhythm: Jason Roller _HKYTJON.STY
Electric Rhythm: Darin Favorite _HKYTJON.STY
Piano: John Jarvis _HKYTJON.STY
Dobro: Rob Ickes _MODSYRG.STY

This is the first one I've done with my new hard drive, so I was able to list the styles thank goodness. I tried to keep the drums and bass up this time, but I still don't know if I've got the mix right, so please feel free to let me know.

Cool tune man!

On the mix, the dobro playing while you are singing is distracting for me because it is too busy and it clashes. I would use that sparingly while you are not singing.

The rest sounds really good.

Good set of lyrics, but if Steven Tyler from Aerosmith shows up on your caller ID you might not want to answer:

"Some sweat hog mama with a face like a gent
Said my get up and go, must've got up and went"

A clever write, with great lyrics. I got a good few laughs out of that.

Hey Brad...clever song...pure country to the core...much better mix...IMHO I would lay the vocals a little more into the mix...they seem a little dry (maybe a touch of effects on the vox)...the dobro seems hotter than the rest of the track...I agree with David...I guess I think the rhythm should drive a bit harder...but the song is super cool!

Hi Brad ...

I can relate! I'm a H-U-G-E baseball fan. Grew up with it. My father was in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system until he was injured at the AA level and ended his intended career. Being from St. Louis, it's almost mandatory to be a baseball fan!

I agree with David that the dobro might be reserved for the non-vocal parts. Still, a catchy and fun song. Nicely done!

Alan

Haha, that's perfect, Brad. I was out all morning in the yard, and said I need to come in and see what's new on the forum. Got any songs about not wanting to trim the bottom of a door so it'll fit over carpet? Definitely a relatable song, and you do it with such getup, Brad.

Enjoy whatever happens!
