Hi there.
Just finished this song based mainly on a lyric sent to me by John Vaughan.
Originally it was a comic lyric but I can't do comedy songs well so I changed it.
There must be at least one place like this in every town.
I have an alternative bridge at the end which I haven't used so would be interested in whether you think I should exchange.

BIAB instruments:
Bass 2474
Piano 2045, 2503, 2025
Drums Brushes, Folk
Steel guitars 2667, 3691
Acoustic guitar 3198

Thank you all.
Vic

The Blues Café © 2022 J. Vaughan & V. Arnold

V.1
There's a place out of town
people go when feeling down,
at the dark end of the day
The booze is cheap. The food ain't best
but the music's stood that all time test
Down at the Blues Café.
Br.1
You can dance if you like
with a husband or a wife
Cos they'll be lonely too
Looking for somebody ...
Somebody like you
V.2
Those old songs you'll get to hear
will have you crying in your beer
Memories of a sad affair
Always busy happy hour
Tequila, gin, JD sour
It's hard to find an empty chair
Br.2
If you've burdens to unload
stories needing to be told
Dreams to carry you away
Come on over ...
Step inside the Blues Café
Inst.
Br.3
So go find your ivory tower
while away the hours
at the dark end of the day
Drink your lonely life away ...
down at the Blues Cafe

Vic & John,
Sweet ballad. Nice set of lyrics and performance. A+ arrangement. Steel guitars work very well on this. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

Vic...very pretty song...I love the melody...it is a real challenge to get the BiaB pianos to sound right...often they sound like unconnected segments...you've done a great job constructing the piano...if I had a suggestion I would add an acoustic guitar to lay a pad under the piano to help it sound even tighter...plus when the acoustic lead comes in (which is sweet...maybe a touch hot) it will seem natural for the acoustic player to add his lead and then mix back into the rhythm track with the bass and drums seamlessly...anyway just a thought...
really a sweet song..it has a Marty Robbins feel to it...great job man!

Oh, I would be a regular at most blues cafes. Such a good song, Vic. Love those lyrics. The changes are so good as is the melody. The last Bridge is the saddest. When I think of a Blues Cafe, I think of fun jams and happier folks. You're right, every town has at least one place like this. Well done!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Vic, I think this is a great sad song. You're right, there are a lot of places like this around with a lot of people in them, and I think the lyrics really connect with that atmosphere. It's hard to imagine this as a comedy song. I have no idea what your alternative bridge was, but I sue like what you've got here. I found myself wondering what it may have sounded like if the tempo was a little bit faster with perhaps a little more instrumentation. I think that's just a style thing though. Very good song.

Hello Vircan,

I love the lyrics that create an intimate and endearing atmosphere. The orchestration is really well suited with the sung words. Well done.

Very atmospheric song Vic. I always like your vocals.

That Eddy Dunlap pedal steel guitar works great. We've used it several times as well. I think it's one of the best RTs in BIAB.

Vic, this is absolutely fantastic

Super lyrics that were sung with emotion - great vocal

Loved that melody!

Outstanding backing band - loved that piano

IMHO this is your best to date

Loved it

Unclear if the pianist is a total beginner or a professional jazz player?

Thank you Brad.
The comedy version had a lot of different lyrics so I changed them.

The alternative bridge is the 3rd one which I didn't sing.
I have tried it at a few different speeds. Some would work but didn't improve on the overall sound. Same with instrumentation. I think less is sometimes more in a song like this.

Thanks. It had to be a piano I think.
