Another one I wrote this morning. Argh - another "heartbreak song", though a little different from the others, perhaps (as they all are, haha). Ah well :-) I hope you like it - thank you so much for listening and for any comments! A Dream THE LYRICS: Some night, long ago, I dreamt th' Lord was here And you know, I prayed to him, I asked him to bring you back to me If it wasn't too much for to dream. He said you would write a letter to me, "But when?", I asked him; "when will this end?" "Oh soon, by her birthday, or yours, I mean, Or Christmas, at the latest, my friend". Your birthday's tomorrow, mine's coming up soon, And the Lord has never betrayed me, yet, I cannot complain, it's not yet the time, So I cry in my heart, ever quiet. There's so much I would have to say to you, If ever us two were to meet again; For now, I cry; "have faith", he says to me, I'm afraid to even utter your name. "And how have you been?", I would ask, soft, "And tell me how life has been treating you, please". I'd skip my own life, I don't want you to cry, I would rather you felt at ease. Your birthday's tomorrow, mine's coming up soon, And the Lord has never betrayed me, yet, I cannot complain, it's not yet the time, So I cry in my heart, ever quiet. And then, if you wanted to walk away, I would happily let you fly ... I know you're not mine; I'd wish, one last time, To talk ... and then no more crying. The Lord looks at me, enigmatic, always, And asks me to trust in him; But I've lost my faith, it feels far too late, Perhaps it's too much for to dream. Your birthday's tomorrow, mine's coming up soon, And the Lord has never betrayed me, yet, I cannot complain, it's not yet the time, So I cry in my heart, ever quiet.
Your birthday's tomorrow, mine's coming up soon, And the Lord just says "trust in me", But whether you write is not his decision ... I cry ... dare I hope? please come back to me.THE BAND: ****** Song Summary ************* Title: A Dream - 19 September 2022 File:A Dream - 19 September 2022.SGU Key=C , Tempo 55, Length (m:s)=3:38 No intro. 46 bar chorus, from bar 1 to bar 46. Each of your songs is different, James. Yet they all have many things in common: Incredibly touching lyrics, the perfect band, and your wonderfully unique delivery. Man, I've got to ask... how many girls have you had in your life? Ha. If these are about the same one, she must have really been something. Just kidding, man. Just wondering if that gal is another thing all of your wonderful songs have in common. hehe. I really enjoy your music, James. Keep up the good word.

Thank you so much, Marty. Very kind words.
How many girls have I had in my life? To quote Albert Hammond, "I can count them on one hand", haha :-) . The love/heartbreak songs, however (with the exception of "Milly Anne", which is more of a friendship song, anyway), are inspired by the memory of one of them, only. Yes, there's embellishment, poetic licence, etc. etc. etc. aplenty - but the inspiration is from the same person. I've said that I won't write about her any longer, and - in fact - have promised myself that that is it, after the Autumn Equinox of this year ... but the Equinox isn't here yet, and she's such a source of inspiration for me ... I've managed to write this one more, it seems. Will I write about her any longer? Who knows. In any case, music is therapeutic - and, while many things may no longer be possible in life, no-one said I can't write songs about a memory :-) ... not yet, anyway (haha), right? lol ... :-)
Thank you, Marty, and - indeed - everyone, for bearing with me and, of course, for listening and commenting on these little songs of mine. I'm (for better or worse) a musician at heart (so is she, haha) - so ... :-)

Beautiful lyrics James. And your way of telling it, is impressive. I might say, you're a "musical narrator".

A dream-like lyric. Nicely recorded vocal. Good mix.

David, Anne-Marie, floyd:
Thank you ever so much. Delighted that you enjoyed the song. Having one's own artistic vibe, David, is about as high as compliment as one would ever wish to get, as a songwriter ... so thank you.

The man who puts poetry to music has outdone himself with this song.
Great lyrics and backing tracks that are extremely well mixed.
You also have the knack of coming up with some very interesting chord progressions.
Great work.

Very sad story. A bit long though you tell it well. Nice choice of tracks for your backing.

Scott: thanks so much for listening, and for your kind comment!
Janice and Bud: thank you!!!
Ray: "loneliness and tested faith". In one :-) Thanks, and I'm glad you enjoyed the song.
Josie: I'm always a little bit long-winded, in my written words as well as in my songs, haha. Thanks, though, for your lovely comment :-)

James, I can relate to the depthless well of inspiration of lost love... and your unique style is a good vehicle for stories of yearning. There`s an interesting part the Lord plays in your lyrics here: enigmatic indeed!

Hi James ...
A sad story with the longing of a yearning heart. As I've said so many times, you have a signature style that I really enjoy. You manage to vocally capture the grace and emotion of each song. I think this is the best I've heard from you - both in delivery and composition. Well done! it was a pleasure.
Alan

Touching lyrics I can easily relate to in a certain way. Nice chord progression and the arrangement is very pleasant. Although I'm working on a song against heartbreak song, it's not inspired by your songs, you are specialist in romantic heartbreak songs, keep them coming as long as you find new inspiration and new angles for the subject Janne

Robert: thank you so much. Great to hear such words of encouragement from you. Yes, the Lord has a different role here ... I guess the main character of the song is somehow having "wishful thinking" dreams, and clings to any hope, even faith, rather than accept reality. Such is life, of course ... but whether he's right or wrong to trust his "dreams" or not is something yet to be seen, something that reality will show him soon enough (i.e. since he's dreamt that the whole thing will solve itself by Christmas, at the latest, he will soon find out whether his dream was right or wrong). I guess break-ups, like anything else, are something of a process one goes through, in order to be able to cope with the new "status quo", so to speak ... if one does it all at once, one risks an emotional crash - so this character is perhaps weaning himself off the dreams of "what could have been" and is going towards "what is". Who knows! haha. Thanks for listening and for ever such kind comments, truly.
Alan: thank you ever so much. You're invariably so very kind. I will listen to your own new song asap. I hope that you and your wife, Di, are ok. Always amazing to hear from you.
Janne: let's hope for no more heartbreak songs from me - I've written too many of those, perhaps, lately! haha. We'll see :-) but thank you ever so much for such kind words, and good luck with your own heartbreak song that you tell me about, I'm sure it'll be amazing, and I look forward to hearing it when it's ready! :-)
