Alan,
Another gorgeous instrumental. Filled with emotion. Excellent mix. Great job with the steel. It sounds like a true player doing a real line. So well thought out.
.fj Hi Floyd ... Many thanks! I doubt there's any other instrument that can express human emotion more convincingly than a pedal steel guitar. I have a friend, John Heineman, who plays a variety of instruments for Ronny Milsap on his tours. He's particularly talented on all forms of steel guitar and dobro, as well as sax. Love listening to him! Thank you for the very nice comments! Glad to hear ther hurricane was kind to you. Take care ... Alan

Alan...another great example of your masterful work with BiaB...love the steel (if you want emotion that's the way to go) and the snare drives the song very well...well crafted and produced! Dan Hi Dan ... Agreew with you about the pedal steel and emotions. I expounded a bit on that in my reply to Floyd. I'm delighted you enjoyed the song. Many thanks for the listen and very niced comments! Alan

Alan,
Such a beautiful and emotional tune...
You have a great feel for these instrumentals - they almost sound vocal to me.
Love the production as well - completely suits the song / mood.
Bob Hi Bob! Thank you very much! I'm quite happy the emotion came through for you. I always appreciate your comments. Take care. Alan

Hi Al,
I like this a lot. I like the way the verse swept musically into the chorus. I thought from reading that the drum might stick out like a sore thumb for me but it did not. I understand your shying away from vocals, I'm the same way, but it's fun to imagine how this might sound with some vox. Just fine as is, though. Hi Bob ... It's always a treat when you drioip in for a listen and leave a few words for me. The word "sweep" hadn't rerally crossed nmy mind - until you mentioned it. I like and appreciate the way to usede that word to convey the transition from verse to chorus. There are certain songs on which I can vocalize reasonably well - generally Smooth R&B and Smooth Jazz. After that, well ..... Many thanks for the lisdten and really nice comments! Take care ... Alan

Hello to you both, and good one.
There's tension between the piano and the pedal steel which I sort of want to resolve, lol, but it fits well with your aim to express deeper concerns. Oh, I like the drums and didn't find the snare too loud.
Scott Hi Scott ... When IO listened to the song several times after deciding on the tracks, I also fgoubnd a few places where there was, lacking a better word, a mild clash between the steel and the piano. After listening a few more times, I decided that was good rather than disturbing. The song is about a clash of emotions, so, not only did I leave those parts in , I brought the piano slightly more forward in the mix to punctuate that aspect. Apparently it worked! Thank you very much for the listen and kind comments. It's really nice to have active on the boards again. Take care. Alan

Alan,
The use of that steel really sets the mood in this! You must have worked with it for a while to make it fit the groove! It's a lovely song that's easy to listen to! Another super effort from you!
Thanks, Torrey

Nice job indeed. I can feel the sadness and anquish in this piece. Sometimes more can be spoken without words than with words.
https://soundcloud.com/user-646279677BiaB 2025 Windows For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Thanks, Torrey HI Torrey ... Thank you for those very nice comments. Actually, I spent less than 20 minutes with the steel track. This was just trhe 6th or 7th iteration of the track. I have just under 6 hours total invested in the song. I think you know the archaic method I use in my song creation. So, I spend almost as much time "messing" with the tracks in the mix than I do with all other elements of the projects. Thanks again ... Alan

Nicely done, Alan, I always enjoy listening to your instrumentals no matter what the genre.
You are truly the master at coming up with cool chord progressions, and that pedal steel is talking to me.
Doesn't need a singer IMHO, it's perfect just the way it is.

Alan, I'll start this first by just saying "Thank you." I'm reluctant to ever say to someone "this is my favorite of yours," on this forum because invariably I'll hear another from them that makes me change my mind. I've got to say it this time though. This takes me home more than you can know. My dad was always heavily involved in music and was a legendary lead guitarist in our area at one time. He'd played with a lot of top players and hit makers, but one day the tip of a finger severed in an accident. He could still play well, but not like before, so he built his first steel guitar and learned to play that. Eventually he started doing some studio work in southern California, and a few years ago was inducted into the Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame. There was always a pedal steel guitar set up in our home, and I still listen to old albums consisting of nothing but steel, particularly when missing that 'old home feeling.' Through my dad mostly, I've met several of the top name Steel players, including Paul Franklin several times. He is a great player, but he's also a real nice guy to talk with. I spent a little time with his dad as well, who helped him design and build the Franklin pedal steel. I've thought of trying to put something together like this in the past, but don't even know where to begin. You've done your usual great job on this Alan, but this particular one really made me nostalgic. So again, Thank you - very much.
Brad

........................ I, too, am a huge fan of the pedal steel. I don't think it gets enough attention in todays country music.
........................ Alan I don't think there is enough country in today's country music! A super instrumental. One can feel the pain in that pedal steel. Super job on this one! PS - tell Di that she is in our prayers.
Unclear if the pianist is a total beginner or a professional jazz player?

We've always liked pedal steels from the "weeping steels" of the classic country years to the present. It is indeed a unique instrument ... as though designed for sadness ... one has to search for happy steels. Robert Randolph perhaps As all the previous comments have mentioned you made fine use of it in this poignant composition. And the minimalist backing tracks work very well in the excellent mix. A question. You mentioned the possibility of bringing down the snare? Are these RealDrums? Do you find an EQ notch that works and reduce that frequency? We often double the RD snare but that is to bring it up. Pardon the digression. Enjoyed it! J&B
