Get Out of My Car

The song is all tongue and cheek. The lyrics probably don't make sense without a little backstory. Perhaps, I should subtitle it "A Teacher's Day." All the little incidents in the song are based on events that happened last year in my school with some of the most interesting involving one of colleagues. The hook is inspired by a student who would constantly wander out of the school building, venture into the parking lot, and sit it cars that were left unlocked. Nothing ever happened to the student for a while. Then my colleague had enough when this student had trespassed into his car one too many times. The student was suspended.

Lyrics

I wear orthopedic shoes
And a cardigan sweater
Spend all my time
Trying to make your life better
This time, I think you’ve gone too far
Little [*****], get out of my car

Prophylactics
Lying on the floor
A boy sets fire
To the girl next door
Going home, I’m gonna stop at the bar
Little [*****], get out of my car

Get out of my car

Locked open rooms
Become Noah’s Ark
Hallucinogenic
Vapors in the dark
Moonlight streaming in a jar
Little [*****], get out of my car

Get out of my car

Goose stepping parents are out of their minds
Can’t leave Confederate generals behind
Living in a book burning hegemony
Marching for the white man’s destiny

I wear orthopedic shoes
And a cardigan sweater
Spend all my time
Trying to make your life better
This time, I think you’ve gone too far
Little [*****], get out of my car

Get out of my car

Hilarious song with a great arrangement. Definitely needed the preface to fully appreciate it. Loved all the little touches in the production. Terrific work!

That's a great one...fun & well done.
The "Little [*****], get out of my car" hook is fantastic.
I wasn't overly keen on the style change for
"Goose stepping parents are out of their minds
Can’t leave Confederate generals behind
Living in a book burning hegemony
Marching for the white man’s destiny"
But I recognize it needed to do something or go somehwere...it's just that those lines would've had a more ominous feel with the standard section applied to it.
VERY COOL regardless.

Cheers

Hi Scott,

This is great! The backstory really helped, and very descriptive writing.

Love the "Little [*****], get out of my car" hook grin

Also really liked the way you did the "Get out of my car" parts.

The Wrecking Crew did a great job for you overall I think.

I like the change for the "Goose stepping parents" part, works for me.

Really well done, listened a couple of times.

Damn! Going to have that hook stuck in my head all day now I think eek

Cool Bass from BIAB - nice choice.
Nice use of the NI guitar.

(I like the change at the bridge)

Excellent Pop sound.

Well done. Worth many listens.

Scott,

I know this is a tongue and cheek tune, but setting that aside, this track is a killer! The production is some of the best I've heard here! The intro really grabs the listener! That funky rhythm really sets the mood! Your vocals are great! Very creative use of backing vocals also! I feel this is your best to date!

Thanks, Torrey

Scott...great production...the vocals were killer especially the dissonant feel of the harmonies....very cool...the rhythm was stellar and so engaging...I suppose it's either "get out of my car" or "get off my lawn" but the back story defined that...way to get a cool song out of such a bizarre occurrence...this was tight...well done...Dan

Scott,
Wow, this pulls back the curtain on what`s really going on in high school ( I have a G9 kid and can`t get the real goods from him, of course!).
Super simple funky arrangement works well and your vocal commands attention; the hook is killer!!
One of the best up tempo songs I`ve heard on the forum;your day job experiences make amazing song material;Well done.

Wow, this is a pretty unusual song in the best possible way, I like everything about it.
For me the change of style works very well.

Very good choice of instrumentation, good vocals and a really, really good mix.
2 thumbs up!

Thanks, Tunemonger. I wrote the song for my colleagues (but I haven't played it for them yet), so I included the preface because I didn't think anyone would get the lyrics otherwise.

Dave, I guess I succeeded if it's stuck in your head. Thanks!

Your written background helped but I would have liked this even if I didn't read it.

I really liked your vocal and lyrics

Loved that chorus

Great mix

Sensational story song, Scott. I wonder how I would've received the lyrics without the backstory. I bet your colleague got a big kick out of this one. "A BOY SETS FIRE TO THE GIRL NEXT DOOR." Yeow. Sounds like you teach at Fort Apache, The Bronx. So many interesting incidents in one year. I really like the drive behind this song, and I'd like to meet the little [*****] who was suspended. Bet he plays drums.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Cool!

The write is so good and reminds us of stories our two teacher sisters have told us through the years. smile

As others mentioned the hook really works well and gets stuck in your head. Plus the way you sing it and those harmonies there paint a vivid picture of the scene and the look on the teacher’s face. The opening verse had Janice envisioning her tenth grade trigonometry teacher.

Great band and mix to go along too. We enjoyed this a lot!

Thanks, Firesong. This was the first time I used a diminished chord in a song, which gave the harmonies that dissonance.

Thanks, Robert. I have to give credit to my colleague for the interesting experiences. He seems to have the luck of encountering the bizarro behaviors.

Hey Scott I liked everything about this song, what a story what a hoot!
I admire creativity and this is creative. At places your vocals reminded me of David Bowie . . . a compliment.
Chord progression, percussion, instrument choice all top shelf!

I could see a teacher really getting pissed-off at such a little ***** such as this. Absent psychiatric problems, the kid is lucky the rattan cane is no longer used.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.
