This is what The Netherlands looked like, back in the 70s...
For us it's true nostalgia, as we grew up in those years.
The video is true Kodak color Plus ;-)

Film van Weleer Film of Yesteryear

Ga je mee naar ‘t verleden Come with me to the past
Ga je mee naar mijn jeugd Come with me to my childhood
‘t Lijkt kort geleden It seems a while ago
maar gaat nooit voorbij, but it’s never gone,
staat dicht bij mij, dicht bij mij… is close to me, close to me...

Mijn oma’s en opa’s My grannies and granddads
ze waren er nog they were still there
Ik weet wel, dat was eens, I know, that was once,
maar toch… maar toch… and yet… and yet...

Beelden van vroeger Images from the past
Een film van weleer A film of yesteryear
Ach ja, verbleekte kleuren, Ah yes, faded colours,
vol krassen en ruis, full of scratches and noise,
maar ik kom weer thuis, kom weer thuis but I’m coming home again, home again

Laat mij even dromen let me dream for a while
laat mij maar dromen van toen let me dream of that time
De dag van morgen Tomorrow
krijgt nog tijd, tijd genoeg will still get time, enough time

Noem ‘t nostalgisch You may call it nostalgic
of melancholiek or melancholic
Maar laat mij maar even … zweven But just let me ... float for a while

Die straten, die huizen Those streets, those houses
de winkels, die kerk, dat plantsoen the shops, that church, that park
Ik ga in gedachten terug In my mind I'm going back
om weer boodschappen doen to go shopping again

Als je goed nadenkt If you think about it
is dat alles allang voorbij it’s all long gone
Maar ‘k wilde nog even But I still wanted to go back
met jou teruggaan naar die tijd with you to that time for a while

Sorry, can't get the English words in one line, Tab nor Enter could do the job.
I hope the different colours work.

A mesmerizing video, very interesting.

Nice musical accompaniment - lovely vocal and Rob's guitar solo was just right for the piece.

Good work all round.

Sounds great!

The lyrics are especially touching.

The video reminds me - last year I got a film digitizer and scanned in a pile of 8mm and Super-8 family films from the '60s and '70s.

Thank goodness for video stabilization software! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Today seems to be the 'no-chorus-day' (see fgrittner's song).... not that there's anything wrong with that smile

It's a nice melancholic song, sparse but effective arrangement and of course your great vocals and harmonies. I like it a lot.

The video is indeed like a time travel back to the 70's, great work here too.

Oh, yes, this was one of the songs I listened to when I subscribed to your channel. Anne-Marie, thank you for taking the time to create this post. Very helpful.

Rob and Anne-Marie, you are a sensational team. The video is beautifully done and a very special keepsake with such a wonderful song.

Marie-Anne and Rob...this is so captivating...first off you guys again deliver a super vocal performance...such a sweet, nostalgic song...it is perfect for the video (and thanks for the English words: for our understanding) but I find the Dutch much more appropriate and romantic...I enjoyed this so much!

BTW: my ancestors came from Leiden...my generational-grandfather came to America in November 1621...150 years before the existence of the United States...I would love to visit The Netherlands some day!

Hi Rob and Anne Marie.
Your film took me back to my youth in London. A local market looked similar to that. I love the old clips, and your song is a very soothing accompaniment.
Thank you for posting.

Rob and Anne-Marie, this is such a captivating piece of work and is nostalgic no matter where one grew up.
So soothing compared to our jarred and cold societies that are all too common around the world today.
This brings us back to a much simpler, humane, civilised and cultured yesterday.
Your vocals are especially pleasing, do consider sharing more of this.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Great song, well sung, and the most interesting video by far that I've seen on the forum. I was in my twenties back then, and it was a great time musically. Thanks for the memories.

I watched the vid for a few moments but it drew me in too deeply and I wasn't "listening".
Quickly I went back to the post and listened properly.
The whole production is sweet & I LOVE hearing you sing in your native tongue...I can hear the nostalgia, warmth and love.
I was a teen through the 70s so, naturally, I have strong feelings about the time, place, events and MUSIC of that decade.
EXCELLENT.

Cheers

A deep sense of nostalgia is evoked from both the music and the video.

I was fascinated by the film footage.

Song is sweetly sung and beautifully composed and produced.

Very nice song. Thanks so much for adding the English words, I really like the story and wouldn't have understood it otherwise. The different colors worked nicely I thought. The music is so very nice and I just love your harmonies together like that.

What a sweet, sensitive song about a very interesting time. Beautifully sung (of course) and good lyrics.
And the guitar playing was very nice.
Top shelf nostalgia!

Heb er van genoten,
Hans
