COLD HARD RAIN

Ron Helm and I had a chance to get together last week and we took the opportunity to scratch out another song. I was thinking of waiting a while to post here but decided to go ahead and do it now. It's about someone coming to the realization that they are not where they need to be in their relationship with God or an individual! Thanks to anyone who takes time to have a listen!

Cold Hard Rain
Words and music by
Torrey Bliss and Ron Helm

The candle light it dims and fades
Outside, there is a cold, hard rain
It chilling me down to the bone
Since I found myself here alone
I hear Your voice in the wind
It's calling out to me again
I can't find a way to get You out of my mind
When I'm reminded of You, time after time

Outside, I know there's a cold, hard rain
Inside, my need for You remains
As life goes on, how can I carry on
Without You, it just ain't the same

Only You can ease my pain
I know You still love me, though I've gone astray
The rain comes down as I watch it pour
It's telling me to come home once more
Here in this world, I feel I don't belong
Someday soon I'll be moving on
And together again, in the light, we will be
But here in the now, the storm is all I can see

Outside, I know there's a cold, hard rain
Inside, my need for you remains
As life goes on, how can I carry on
Without you, it just ain't the same

Outside, I know there's a cold, hard rain
Inside, my need for you remains
I know You see, I'm not who I should be
I'll never make it on my own

Outside, I know there's a cold, hard rain
Inside, my need for you remains
As life goes on, how can I carry on
Without you, it just ain't the same

Outside, I know there's a cold, hard rain
Inside, my need for you remains
I know You see, I'm not who I should be
I'll never make it on my own

I like your song, it reminds me in a positive way of a well-known song, but I can't remember exactly which one it is.
The intro is VERY cool!
Arrangement and mix are very good, I'm not a big fan of that snare sound, but that's just a personal thing, nothing to worry about smile

Torrey...first off I love the intro (I love ethereal and nature sounds!)...now this would be a great song for PC&D...you sound a bit like Randy and the harmonies (which are super!) reminds me of them...again you and Ron are such a great team...you gotta know I love everything you guys have produced and this is no exception...this can play in or out of the genre and be a hit!

Give Randy a call and pitch him your stuff smile

Nicely done guys. Like B.D. Thomas this reminds me of a band but I can't put my finger on it.
Anybody remember Pousette Dart? Might be in their sub-genre.
Great job.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Great song Torrey.

Outstanding production, music, vocals and lyrics.

Many of your tunes have a classic 80s sound to me, like big radio hits from that era

People knew how to produce back then.

Classic Torrey tune.
DOD certainly provide some good multi tracks.
Excellent performances mate, you really are a talent.
This could be a sneaky crossover hit.

I agree with Ray. This is a classic Torrey production with all of the quality ingredients we have grown accustomed to. Lots of dynamics, great guitar playing, and awesome vocals.

Recently my desktop speaker gave up and I purchased a new one. I bought it at the local five and dime. A cheap one with a bit of a muffled sound. But your production comes out alive and kicking even with this speaker!

Like David said, it's got the slick '80s production vibe - snappy DODs drums, funky bass, excellent guitars.

Catchy and memorable chorus.

Great vocal as well.

And did I mention the intro yet? smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Yeah! You had me right from that melodic playing in the intro, and it just got better from there.

I wasn't expecting to hear any more songs from you this year, so this is a bit of an early present for us I think wink

All the best to you and yours for Christmas!

Thanks for having a listen! I wanted a little different sound with the drums for this and opted for the DOD Nothing But Brushes set because it was the closest thing, I could find to fit my vision for the tune! T

I knew you'd write another one before the year's end. smile

Intro is mesmerizing.

Melody and vocal are very good, but what really stands out for me are the tracks you laid down. A big wow!

Thanks Dan! I don't know Randy, but I have met Dan Dean! Don't know if they would feel this is a good fit for them but would be honored if they liked it! Ron will be pitching this one and a couple more of ours that I have not shared in the forum in Nashville next month! I always appreciate your comments! T

Your song sounds great guys and really polished. The vocals and instruments in the mix sound so clear. It could stand with the best of them in the charts!
