This is a cautionary tale of sliding into addiction. But paradoxically it has an upbeat Celtic style as I have much of that in my ancestry according to my DNA. Quite difficult to sing because of the amount of words in a line but cutting them isn't an option. I did wonder whether a vocal outro should be used over the playout. Vic Line up: Bass 1161 Cello 3264 Drums Boom ChikaSW Fiddle 3187 Guitar 3440 Guitar 1414 https://on.soundcloud.com/wjXve The Devil's Rap © Vic Arnold V1 Can't say it was good or bad. Naked neat or fancy clad Rolled with any thing it had. Nothing short of cunning. Wicked dreams, come round again. Like a top I start to spin. Hell knows where I'm going or been Never saw it coming. Inst. V2 At the first it stings or burns. After time the body learns to get there fast with no return. One way ticket only. Take it short or take it long. Use it all until it's gone. Plenty more where this came from in the land of lonely. Ch.1 The devil's rap. Down the drain. Through the rivers, to the main. Like the tide, comes back again Pulls you in, drowns your brain. Steals away your soul. Inst. V3 I saw a man who wasn't there, climbing up a crooked stair and then he wasn't anywhere but never saw him leaving. I woke up in a sky of stars. Saw another friend had passed. Seems the moment never lasts. Nothing to believe in. Inst. V4 Take a sip or take a bite, taste the colours gold or white. Hang on for the donkey ride. Tripping out to nowhere. Here the sun will always shine in an everlasting lie. See the truth before you die, sinking in that old chair Inst. Br. Drink my fill, take the pill, lose the will to shout "Hell No!" Here we go. Ch.2 The devil's crap will take you down ... Through the gutters, round the town. In the sewers you'll be found ... Wearing turds for a crown. Dying in a hole.

Hey there Vic. I love the Celtic feel of this melody. You pulled it off well. I always seem to use too many words as well, but I thought it sounded really good here. I also like the idea of a vocal outro. I sure like your stuff,
Brad

Not my favorite genre, but I like your song and it indeed has a nice Celtic vibe. I don't think there are too many words, the (fast) vocal rhythm works quite well for this kind of song. I wouldn't change the outro.

A great Celtic sound Vic, great write. And a good warning message for young folk.

VERY cool Vic. There're some difference between what's written & sung that'd be nice to clarify as those couple of spots caused me to lose focus as I was reading/listening. Lots of classic connections with Steeleye Span and the large contingent of folk rock with Celtic flavour out there. have you listened to the early albums of Horslips? A fabulous concoction that went from pure trad to borrowed airs to an almost Celtic prog wonder.

"...sliding into addiction" is more likely the time the addict is most upbeat --hence this stye is most appropriate. The dirge comes toward the end. I really really like this, Vic. Man, those lyrics are so fine, and I really enjoy the melody. You surround it all with a great catch of instrumentation and wrap it in an engaging mix. You rapped your way through those lyrics with apparent ease.

Brad Thanks Brad. Normally I'd strip it down but I liked the rush of it all. I'll think on the outro. Vic

Vic,
Took me a second to get the feel for the Celtic vibe, but once the vocals kicked in I was all aboard—it works great as the vehicle for this tune. I don’t find it too wordy at all and I think you’ve done a great job on the vocal. Really like the chorus and that fiddle really pops. I would leave the outro as is, sans any vocal additions. Good stuff!
Best regards,
Deej

Hey Vic,
I love Celtic music, and although I've never attempted it myself I enjoy listening to it.
Great groove, and your vocal really works well here.
Excellent write too.
Well done!

Thanks Ray. Yes I found one instance now and fixed it but can't find any more at the moment.
I'd not heard Horslips before, but I quite like that kind of hybrid sound.
