Greg,

A very nice pop folk rock song!
It really captures the atmosphere of CSN and the Byrds.
I like your jazz vocals very much, but this kind of song is also very good.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Greg,

So good to hear a new one from you . . . welcome back to the Forum. Terrific tune delivered by another excellent vocal. Production is stellar. Yeah, very reminiscent of the Byrds and 60's feel . . . excellent harmonies. Good stuff!

All my best to you,

Deej

Love that jingle jangle sound. You hit that Echo Canyon feel right on the nail---This could be part of the Byrds repertoire. I enjoyed this much!

Before You Go

Who knows what we’re doing here?
The path we’re walking ain’t so clear
Spinning on this magic green ball
Powered by a star

Filling highways with commuters
Communicating on computers
Filling heads with fantasies
Of colonizing Mars

Dreaming of the perfect world
Peace and harmony
In between our favorite Netflix shows
Some believe we’re coming back
But no on really knows
Be sure to smell the roses ‘fore you go

Eons now of evolution
Peasants, kings, and revolutions
The poets and the politicians
With the perfect plans

Maybe some things can’t be altered
We’ve risen up and then we’ve faltered
Could be a fundamental flaw
In the DNA of man

Is intelligence a blessing or a curse in our design?
Have we figured out more than we’re meant to know?
But, regardless of the ending
We can still enjoy the show
Be sure to smell the roses ‘fore you go

I hope that things won’t always be
As hopeless as they seem
How brutal is awakening
For those who dare to dream
If all the voices in the world could finally agree
Oh, what an existence this would be

Now the light of truth is growing dark
The world’s controlled by oligarchs
A few will pull the lever
And the rest will ride along

The central ministry of truth
Indoctrinate our fragile youth
And they won’t stop ’til everybody’s
Singing the same song

So check your conscience at the door
It’ll just get in the way
No need for the baggage anymore
I used to believe in something bigger
Now I just don’t know
But I’m gonna smell the roses ‘fore I go

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Hi Greg, thank you for sharing this. As someone else has mentioned, in addition to the Byrds influence I can definitely hear a Jackson Browne and Warren Zevon influence there - certainly in the chorus/tag line (from 1' 57" on)

Greg, great song! The writing was great throughout, but man, I sure like "I hope that things won’t always be as hopeless as they seem,
How brutal is awakening for those who dare to dream. If all the voices in the world could finally agree oh, what an existence this would be" Great stuff. You always provide great vocals, and this is yet another example. Great production. Liked the guitars and loved the intro. I never really listened to the Byrds, they were slightly before my time. I did come across Chris Hillman when he was playing with the Desert Rose Band, and later found out that as a kid, I was living about 15 minutes away from where Graham Parsons and Emylou Harris were living together, but never knew it! ... That's the story of my life, a day late and a lot of dollars short.

Brad
