I probably only understand 10% of the lyrics, but it's nonetheless fun to listen to. Reminds me of the time when a friend of mine improvised blues and I just sang along with whatever came to mind.

I probably only understand 10% of the lyrics, but it's nonetheless fun to listen to. Reminds me of the time when a friend of mine improvised blues and I just sang along with whatever came to mind. I think your comments are how most people would see this. I did sing this, if you can call it singing...lol, in the 1940s/1950s style of people like Lightin Hopkins, Sun House, Tampa Red, and many others. I also just sang whatever came to mind. That was a common occurrence with blues guys of that time period. There were references like "short dog" which refers to a half pint of whiskey which most people would likely not understand. The lyrics are, in fact, based on actual events. The names have been changed to protect the guilty...lol As I have said a couple of times, I like the song you create. Being an old guy I get the privilege of understanding both the distant past and the present. These old blues guys were as "cutting edge" in that time period as you are in today's world. Robert Johnson's twenty-nine blues songs have unbelievably affected all styles of popular music to this day. Thanks for the kind words. Billy

Billy, I'm a big fan of the blues and in fact I have a number of old time blues CD of Lightin Hopkins, Sun House, Tampa Red, and many others. You nailed that era's sound with perfection. Those old blues guys made a ton of great music using only one guitar, a vocal, and the stomping of a foot. Loved that ending! Loved that song. PS - you forgot about the stomping of a foot

Thanks, Mario, lol, a stomp box! Well, I have seen such things, both acoustic and electronic, and just the floor...lol Perhaps that and a cigar box guitar would be a good Saturday afternoon project.
Well, now I guess you would expect me to keep all that going in time...lol
One of you cigar box guitar guys should post something!

Hi Billy ...
Makes me think I'm in Tupelo, MS about 60 years ago - when I was young! And you perfectly captured the sound of the era and genre. Cool song - thanks for a real nice listen.

Some old time blues for sure. The kind you don't hear too often any more. Good job man.

Thank you for the comment. Well, I never got to play in Tupelo. I was never skilled enough for the Big city...lol I did get invited to play in Shelby, Mississippi at a "one door in one door out" juke joint. My wife Eva, was scared to get out of the car...lol But she did and had a good time. this is what the place looked like. https://imgur.com/a/WIcI7l2And thanks Thumper!! Billy

Loved it.
Some down and mean woman, had to pawn my guitar, going to the drinkin place, blues.
The lazy singing hits this prefectly.
I agree... a foot stomping out the 4 on the floor would be perfect. Also.... just a LOL kind of nit... the guitar is in tune.... WTH?
You can't play authentic blues with a tuned up guitar.

Hi Billy,
Always good to hear some acoustic Blues.
The vocal is nice and upfront but could maybe do with an EQ cut to get rid of the microphone proximity boom plus a little more reverb so it sits in the same room as the guitar.
Good work.
Best Regards Nigel

Elliott Kayne, thanks, live guitar. Perhaps I will not get shot for posting live...lol
Herb, you should drive down here with your wife and spend a few days. You could bring a few pieces of hardwood from your sawmill. We could make a stomp box and a diddle bow. I also need an old North Carolina license plate for the stomp box.
Thanks, Nigel. I will actually give those ideas a try. What you hear is precisely what got recorded with no mixing at all. The next time I get crazy and play something like this, I will record it on an old, worn-out tape machine I have somewhere and hope for a good bit of tape hiss...lol.

This is freakin' awesome!!!
Real. Realer than real. This is realer than a fresh kill alligator bite when your left leg is gone and the moon is laughing at you and you down at the crossroads dying and crying and wishing you never signed that dirty low down deal with the Mississippi devil real.
Hmmmmmm... Mmmmmmmm
Now THIS is the blues.

You keep writing these sorts of comments, David, and I am going to steal them and use them in a song...lol
Thanks, man, hope you got home OK.

Yep, that sounds like authentic blues to me! Nice playing, Billy B.! I agree with Nigel that the vocal could use a bit of EQ to bring it up front. I ended up turning up the volume. This song seem to go on forever I don't know this guitar player thinks I'm gonna do... Enough of this!Ha! I enjoyed the listen.

Great sound to this . . . that guitar is so engaging . . crystal classic blues. While the feel of the vocal is not far off from some of the early stuff, personally, I think the song would resonate more with a bit more clarity . . . it’s a subjective thing for sure. Good stuff!
Best regards,
Deej

Thank you, Mr. David, for all the ideas and hours of feedback you have given me. I know for sure you put a ton of time and effort into the songs you create. Your mixes are very well done. Any song I create that had a good mix was mixed by someone else...lol. I will do better if I live long enough...lol I tried to make it "authentic blues" as best as I could remember the times and places. The people and the sound of their voices. What things look and smell like. What the food tasted like, and what the colloquialisms were. What the vernacular of the "Jim Crow segregated South" was. The incredible level of acceptance and friendship those people showed me. It was illegal for me to go into those back juke joints in the early years. At some level, they put their lives at risk by letting me be there. I think songs like this should be sung by old people like me before they die. Perhaps they provide a tiny window into a past that we should all remember and try not to repeat in the future. Yes, I know, I talk too much...lol. Best regards,
Deej Thank you, Deej, for the very kind words. I really never expected for much of anyone to comment on this song. It is pretty eclectic! LOL, I think I must be at least the second-worst singer I ever listened to. Thanks for putting up with me. Billy

I read everything trying to find out what the BIAB/PGMusic component was but couldn't find it. I've mentioned it before but the 2nd guitar is the one thing that keeps this out of an archive. The line between pastich, homage, appropriation & pisstake can be hard to find & I struggled with that listening to C.W.Stoneking as well.
