A Sentimental Dream

A basic, barebones acoustic guitar instrumental. The bass is electric, all other tracks are acoustic.

One question: Although very sparse, are the drums too loud? Sometimes they sound as though they are, and at other times, not so much. I did EQ them a bit, but do they need to come down in the mix?

Thanks

Alan

Alan,

Love this. It sounds like a Nashville coffee house on a Saturday afternoon. smile

I think the drums sound fine and the mix is excellent with lots of space.

Great stuff!

I really like this and I found the percussion just right.

An interesting chord progression, I hear a tinge of jazz and your use of BiaB is masterful.

Great job.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Hi Alan,

I agree with the others, the drums and total mix is OK.

Super use of RTs.

Are you playing the lead? If so great job!

A Really good chord progression.

Unclear if the pianist is a total beginner or a professional jazz player?

Hi Elliott ...

Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback on the drums.

No, that is not me on the guitar. It's RT 3700 Slack Key Acoustic Guitar.

I initially played it on my Washburn acoustic and it sounded pretty good. But I don't have good mics for recording acoustic instruments - something I need to address. They sound either too "boomy" or too thin. Sometimes too "plucky", if that makes sense. But I am a lead guitarist, by trade.

Again, many thanks!

Alan

Bass Thumper ...

Thanks for your time to listen and comment. I appreciate that.

I find experimenting with chord progressions very interesting and lots of fun. I do a lot of smooth jazz, which often has some unexpected but nice progressions. I'm delighted you enjoyed the song!

Hi Dan ...

Many thanks for the very nice words.

As you might already know, I'm also an author, and quite a few of my songs have been inspired by certain passages in my books - although this one was not.

Thanks for the feedback on the drums.

wishing you everything good ...

Hi Mario ...

Many thanks for your input regarding the drums and mix. You probably already know how much I like playing around with chord progressions. Sometimes it ends up with something nice and/or interesting. Chords just kinda come to me. I can often "hear" them in my mind before I ever play them. It took me 15 - 20 minutes to come up with this progression.

No, not me playing. It's RT 3700 Slack Key Acoustic lead. I'm not very good at recording acoustic instruments - don't have the proper mics for it. But, I did play it on my acoustic as I was writing it. The RT sounds quite a bit like my take on the melody and chords.

Best to you ...

Alan

Hello Al
good mix
Melody sounds very nice
The guitar solo, just because it lasts so long, has strengths and weaknesses.
But I guess that can't be avoided in such a long BiaB solo.
Great work
Many greetings
Andi ;-)

Alan,

Another beautiful instrumental.
Drums sound good.
I thought that that acoustic lead was just slightly too loud - it gave me the sense that the acoustic was "jumping out of the mix" (and sort of "showing off" - volume-wise) every once in a while (not all the time)

Sentimental chord progression, I can imagine this as the background music for a nice romantic evening in a hotel with wine etc.
Definitely romantic, reminds me bit of the Love Boat theme.
Drums' volume is perfect, not too loud, but still enough to give the backgone for the track. BIAB has many great instruments to choose from and you have selected an excellent lead guitar.

Lovely sound.
The drums aren't too loud but the rim shot is very thin while the snare slaps are more full bodied....is it possible to add a little wide boost in that area for the sections where it's more prominent?
Sweet.
